Chapter 881
Third Person’s POV
Gloria sat in the chair, a heavy silence wrapping around her.

She stared fixedly at the floor. The upset inside her was slowly being ground down, eroded by the harsh reality of their situation. Finally, she lifted her head. The fury in her voice had vanished.
“Promise me two things, and I’ll forget you ever tried to reject me.”
Ulrik let out a soft sigh, his eyes lifting to meet hers. “Name them.”
“First, I never want to hear the names Adelaide and Velda ever again.”
Ulrik’s lips thinned into a tight, hard line. He remained silent for a long moment.
In the quiet of the room, his scent grew chaotic–a turbulent storm of conflicted emotions. Only after what felt like an eternity did he slowly nod.
“Fine.”
“Second, you need to pull yourself together. Go to the Palace, beg Lycan Erasmus, and take back the position that belongs to you.”
Ulrik stared at her, genuine shock flashing across his features. “Lycan Erasmus has stripped me of my rank, Gloria. Do you understand what that means? There is no going back.”
“I’ve already thought it through,” she countered, her tone absolute, as if she had calculated every move in her head long ago. “I’ll return to the Ironclaw Pack. I’ll beg Luna Christine to help you.”

She leaned in, her eyes sharp. “I want your word, Ulrik. You will return to the Palace, rebuild your career, and climb even higher than before. And from now on, you do what I say.”
Ulrik shook his head, rejecting the idea instantly. “I’m not dragging Christine into my mess.”
He buried his face in his hands, his shoulders tense.
When he finally looked up, his voice cracked with a bitter realization. “I know Lycan Erasmus. He’s loathed me for a long time. If Christine steps in, it will cost her a fortune and exhaust her political connections. I’m not worth it. It’s a waste.”
“A waste?!” Gloria snapped.
Her aura flared instantly, crashing into him like a physical blow.
“I am the highest–ranking she–wolf of the Ironclaw Pack! Her connections, her wealth–they were given to her by the pack! I have every right to use those resources!”
“But you’re no longer a member of the Ironclaw Pack, Gloria.”

Chapter 881
“That doesn’t alter my lineage. I am, and always will be, an Ironclaw by blood.”
Ulrik let out another heavy, exhausted sigh, falling back into a stubborn silence.

Seeing him like this–broken, defeated, and wallowing in self–pity–only stoked the embers of Gloria’s rage. Fire danced in her eyes again. “Are you going to promise me or not?!”
Ulrik looked up at her, but instead of anger, his face was unnervingly calm. “Let me ask you something.
“If I re–enlist in the army–if I start from the very bottom as a common warrior on the front lines–would you still stay with me in the Bloodmoon Pack?”
Gloria bolted upright, her mind reeling at what she had just heard. “Have you lost your/mind?!”
“A common soldier? Ulrik, war with the Western Tribe could break out at any moment! If you go to the front lines and get hurt, then what? Do you have any idea how dangerous that is? Besides, how is a soldier’s monthly pay supposed to support an entire pack?”
Her chest heaved violently as panic and fury fed into each other.
“Remember who you are! You are the Alpha of the Bloodmoon Pack. You are supposed to protect us! Where is your sense of responsibility? Your dignity? It took you years of blood and sweat to secure your place in the Palace, and now you’re going to throw it all away for some vicious bitch? And you expect me to suffer with you?!”
She was shaking with rage. She was convinced he had either taken a blow to the head or gone completely insane.
A common soldier’s mate? The noble ladies of New York would laugh her out of every room.
Who would he even be serving under? Eugene?
Or would he get himself deployed to the southern border, or worse, the Bloodscar?
How was that any different from rejecting her outright?
“I don’t even recognize you anymore,” she whispered, staring at him. “Do you even care about our mate bond? Are you saying this just to hurt me?”
Faced with his mate’s vitriol, Ulrik remained perfectly still. His mind was made up.
He had spent the first half of his life trapped in a cycle of hesitation and regret.
He would make a choice today, regret it tomorrow, and crave the option he threw away by the day after.
He was utterly sick of living that way.
Lately, his mind kept drifting back to the day he returned from the southern border and saw Adelaide.
Even when faced with his betrayal, even when he demanded a rejection, she had remained perfectly calm. He had never seen her lose control. She had maintained her dignity, her elegance, her grace.
