I knocked twice before pushing open Leo’s hospital room door. “Hey, troublemaker.”

Leo looks up from his phone, and the grin that spread across his face made something in my chest loosen. “Look who finally decided to visit me.”
Rolling my eyes, stepped inside, holding up the fruit basket. “Please. I’ve been busy.”
“Busy doing what?”
“Being fabulous.”
He snorts at this, “That sounds exhausting.”
“You have no idea,” I walk over to the small table beside his bed, setting the basket down and he immediately leans forward, inspecting it like I had brought him something far more exciting than apples and grapes.
“How are you?” I asked.
“Still pushing,” the joking edge in his voice faded slightly, he continues, “this admission isn’t as bad as the first one, still sucks, though. Treatments are the worst.”
“I can imagine,” he shrugs, trying to make it sound like nothing and hated that he had gotten so good at doing that, “you’re doing great, though, seriously.”
He gave me a small smile. “Thanks, Juliet,” I laughed softly, sitting on the edge of the chair beside his bed while he dug through the fruit basket for a few seconds before sighing slightly, “I want pizza..”
“Of course you do.”
“I’ve been eating hospital food for weeks, I deserve pizza.”
“Not denying that,” he looks up at me expectantly and I smile, before adding, “how about I bring one when I come next time.”
He smiles triumphantly, “Deal,” then, almost casually, he adds, “We can ask Caelum to bring it since he’s on his way.”
My body immediately went still at that. “Caelum was coming?” the words left my mouth far too quickly and he blinks, his eyebrows pulling together.
“Why are you so jumpy?”
“I’m not.”
“You kind of are.”
I stood, suddenly needing to move. “I just remembered I can’t stay long.”

He watches me carefully, something had change in his expression. “What happened?”
“Nothing.”

“Something happened,” I reach for my bag, pretending to be far more interested in finding my phone than I actually was.
It’s been two days since I had properly seen Caelum, days since I’d had to look him in the eyes and pretend I wasn’t affected by everything that had happened between us.
I’d convinced myself I was fine, that I’d moved past it, that whatever this thing between us had been could stay buried. But the second Leo said his name, that carefully constructed wall inside me cracks.
Not completely, just enough for everything I had been trying not to think about to push through. I gulp, knowing I couldn’t be in this room when he walks through that door.
Leo’s voice softens, snapping me out of my thoughts. “Did something happen between you and my brother?” there was a hint of worry in his voice.
Forcing a smile, “Don’t worry your brain about it.”
“That definitely means something happened,” he stare at me for another second before sighing, “you’re weird.”
“And you are far too curious for your that litter brain of yours..”
“Hey..” he whine, and female lead chuckles softly.
“I’ll bring you pizza next time, okay?” his face brightens again.
“Extra cheese.”
“Noted.”
“And don’t forget the pepperoni.”
“Double noted,” I gave him one last smile before turning toward the door.
“Bye, Juliet.”
“Bye, troublemaker,” stepping into the hallway, I quietly pull the door shut behind me, only then did I let out the breath I had been holding.
My fingers tightens around the strap of my bag, I didn’t want to admit it, not even to myself, but I’d left because I couldn’t face Caelum.
Because I wasn’t sure how long that lie would survive the moment I looked into his eyes again

My feet remained rooted in front of Daisy’s bedroom door, staring at the familiar painting as though it might

somehow tell me what waited on the other side.
I never thought I would have to do this alone again, the last time I had search this room, Caelum had been beside me. We had gone through everything together, looking for anything that could explain Daisy’s final
message.
Anything that could tell us about the ultrasound and point me toward the person she had been hiding from
He had promise we would figure it out together but promises apparently had an expiration date. Especially when the person making them was now taking Olivia to the fall festival.
I gulped, forcing the thought away. Whatever Caelum and I had been doing, whatever weird, complicated thing exist between us, it was probably over now and I wasn’t going to stand here and pretend otherwise.
That didn’t mean I wasn’t hurt, It just meant I wasn’t going to let it stop me.
I took a slow breath before turning the handle, the door opens with a quiet click.
For a second, I simply stood there. It was strange how a room could feel so alive when the person who belonged in it was gone.
Pushing the thought away, I wasn’t here to miss her but was here for answers. Walking over to the desk first, I check the drawers one by one. Notebooks, old receipts, anything
And just like the last time, I had come up work nothing
I moved to the bookshelf next, pulling a books out carefully, checking behind them and running my fingers. along the back of the shelf, still nothing.
