I stood in front of Caelum’s door at seven in the freaking evening, staring at it like it was some kind of monster waiting to swallow me whole.

All I had to do was knock, that was it. Just a simple knock and then I could talk to him..we needed to talk.

We needed to figure out this huge wall between us, the one I had accidentally built because I’d gotten ahead of myself and convinced myself that he still liked Olivia when he didn’t anymore.

I had made assumptions, had overthought everything and like I always seemed to do when my feelings got involved, I had messed things up

Taking a deep breath, I stared at the closed door again and a strange sense of déjà vu washes over me..The last time Caelum and I had a fallout this big, I’d stood in front of this exact door with my heart pounding and my nerves completely out of control.

Only, when the door had opened that time, his mother had been the one standing there. Inremembered how awkward I’d been, how nervous and how I had struggled to put together a single coherent sentence while trying to explain why I was there.

And now I was back here again, in the same situation..

Without giving myself another chance to overthink everything, which, considering I’d already been standing there for the past five minutes, was practically a miracle. I finally stepped forward, my finger presses the doorbell and my ways immediately closes

My foot began tapping nervously against the ground. “Please open,” I muttered and a. second passed, Please don’t open..Please open.”

I wanted him to open, but at the same time, I desperately wanted to turn around and run home.

“Please open,” I whispered again, just a I heard footstep making their way to the door.

My entire body went still as they grew closer, heart began pounding so hard I was convinced it could be heard from the other side. The door handle moved and my eyes flew open just as the door opened.

And I almost choked on my own saliva when Caelum stood there, looking fucking handsome that for one horrifying second, every single word I had prepared disappeared from my brain.

I stared at him, my heart slamming against my ribs, and suddenly, after all that confidence I’d tried to build up, I felt like I could almost drop to my knees from sheer nervousness.

He stared at me, there wasn’t a single emotion on his face. No surprise or irritation, not even even the slightest hint that he was happy or annoyed to see me. Just that unreadable expression, making me panic even

more.

“Okay, before you slam the door in my face,” I blurted out, “you should probably hear me out first,” he says nothing and I rushed on before he could even think about closing the door, “Just give me a chance to speak,

okay? I’ve been trying to get to you, but you’ve clearly been ignoring me, which..honestly, I don’t blame you. I know I messed things up and I know you’re probably pissed at me, but I really need to talk…”

My words were cut short when he doesn’t say anything and instead turned around, walking away. he headed toward the living room, leaving the front door wide open behind him, while I stared after him.

Okay, so.. I guess that was a come in

At least he hadn’t slammed the door in my face, I would take that as a win. A very small win but still a win.

I stepped inside, gently closing the door behind me. By the time I reached the living room, he was already heading upstairs, and didn’t bother to look back, so I followed quietly.

The tension between us was practically suffocating, every step up the stairs felt heavier than the last, neither of us said a word. Eventually, we reached his bedroom and he walked inside with me following after him, once again closing the door behind me.

Then I turned around, only to find him already looking at me. My stomach tightens at his cold expression. God, I hated that look on his face, it made it impossible to know what he was thinking.

Clearing my throat, I let out a soft, “Heyy,” the second the word left my mouth, I wanted to smack myself.

What the hell, Delilah..Heyy,Really..Heyy

Is that the best you could come up with after spending the entire evening preparing yourself for this conversation. But then again, what was I supposed to say when he was looking at me like that.

How was I suppose to form a coherent sentence when he was standing there with that cold..unreadable expression, making me feel like I was trespassing in a place I used to belong.

I wet my bottom lip and took a small step closer, “Caelum..”

His eyes remained on me, “What do you want?” the question was flat, cold as he continues, “why are you here? I thought we weren’t exactly close enough anymore for you to just show up at my place.”

That hurt, more than I wanted it to

I swallowed, nodding slowly. “I guess I deserve that,” his jaw tightens at this, my gaze drifted down before forcing it back up to meet his again.

“I wanted to talk to you.”

“About?”

“Olivia.”

He scoffed, his jaw clenches as he looks away from me, his fingers flexing slightly at his sides. Then I was sure

I had heard him say ‘What was I expecting.. but then again, I could be wrong.

His gaze drifted back to him, expressionless. “I don’t want to talk about Olivia with you.”

“Right, ntalking about Olivia,” nodded again, as a brief silence settled between us before I adde, “but I saw her with Jason during Festive Fall and..”

“I said I don’t want to talk about Olivia,” his voice was sharper this time, causing me to stop taking. He dragged a hand over his jaw before looking directly at me. “Olivia and I weren’t together, we weren’t dating or in some secret relationship. Whatever she did with Jason was her business, she can do whatever the fuck she wants,” his eyes hardens

No one said anything after, at least for a couple of second as the silence stretches between us. Then, almost out of nowhere, his expression shifted. If anything, his voice became even colder.

“I thought you weren’t interested in Festive Fall.”

“What?” my brows pulls together.

“But that didn’t seem to be the case that night,” there was something in his tone that made my stomach twist, something sharp and accusing.

I stared at him, trying to understand what exactly he was implying, my brows furrows deeper, “What do you mean by that?”

Instead of giving a proper explanation, he shakes his head, taking a deep breath like he was already tired of this conversation.

“Forget I said anything,” dragging a hand through his hair before looking at me again, his expression still frustratingly blank, “I was about to shower before you came, so I’m going to do just that,” he said, his voice bored and cold, gesturing vaguely toward the room, “You’re more than welcome to hang around if you want. Or not.”

And just like that, he was dismissing me

My teeth sank into the inside of my lip as I fought the urge to scream. Instead, I ran my fingers through my hair, exhaling sharply.

“Fine. I know things are shitty between us right now, Caelum. I know that. But you acting like this isn’t going to solve anything,” His face remained unreadable as I continued, “And yeah, I take part of the blame. I know I messed up, got into my head and assumed things. I made a decision based on something I thought was true without actually asking you.”

“But you had no right to be mad at me,” his eyebrow twitched then he he scoffs.

That tiny sound somehow managed to piss me off ten times more, because there it was again, that attitude. That cold, detached bullshit that told me there was clearly something bothering him, but he was determined to make me drag it out of him.

I threw my hands up, “Oh my God. What the hell is up with you?”Seriously, If something is bothering you, just fucking spill it instead of standing there acting all broody and pissed off.”

His jaw tightened and a second, I thought he was going to ignore me again. Instead, he finally spoke, “I noticed you and Landon at Festive Fall.”

Frowning “What about us?”

“You two looked cosy,” he continues, his voice still frustratingly calm, “I figured you two are back together or something.”

My mouth fell open slightly, “Why would you ask that?”

He shrugged before looking away for a moment before adding, “You seemed happy talking to him.”

“Oh my God, Caelum. There is nothing going on between me and Landon, n othing. That ship sailed a long, long time ago. Landon is with Sophie, for God’s sake. We were only talking that night,” I pause, narrowing my eyes at him, “and why are you so bothered about Landon?”

His jaw tightens at my question. “I can’t fucking help it,” he said, his voice low, “You practically dated Landon for nearly two years.”

I stared at him, disbelief flashing through me, “Funny you’d say that,” his brows pulled together as I shot back.

You were the one pining over Olivia, and even asked her to Festive Fall.”

“That’s not..”

“And now you’re standing here acting like you’re the victim when you’re no different,” his expression hardens but I ignored it, carrying on, “Yes, Landon and I dated but that was in the past. My feelings for him weren’t strong enough for me to want to be with him. They weren’t. We’re othing but friends now.”

His lips parted ready to say something but I stepped closer before he could say anything.

“No. Let me talk,” pressing a hand against his chest, “I came here because I was hoping we could actually work things out. I came here willing to admit where I fucked up, but instead you’re acting like a jealous ass.”

“I didn’t expect this from you, Caelum. I didn’t expect you to act like it was perfectly okay for you to want to ask Olivia to Festive Fall and then somehow still be with me.”
