A Kiss At Midnight (Delilah and Caelum) novel Chapter 17

Chapter 17

“Wait, you are telling me he walked out on you” Kaia start at me from the middle of her bedroom with one brow rises up while she rubbed mositurizer into her face.

“Ran,” 1 corrected as I laid sprawled across her bed, grabbing her decorative pillow and wrapping it around my chest. “Like the building was on fire.”

She stares at me for a second or two, then burst out laughing. “No fucking way. That was not what I was expecting to hear.”

“I’m as completely stunned as you are.”

“My God, Deli,” she wheezed, clutching her stomach. “What did you do to that poor boy to have him running out on you like that.”

“Okay, don’t make it out to be my fault because I did nothing.” I let her knowing, scoffing. “I mean, I had barely ever touch him when he bolted out like he was on fire.”

“He was on fire, that’s right.” She laughs again. “I think you overwhelmed the poor boy, and he couldn’t control his desire and ended up running.”

I sighed, rolling dramatically on her bed. “I just don’t know if this is going to be norm, him running out whenever I try to keep my end of the deal.”

The room glowed warm pink from the LED lights lining the ceiling, music played softly from her speaker while she continued her ridiculously expensive skincare routine like this wasn’t the highlight of my entire week.

“I’m curious,” Kaia said, turning around in her chair. “How did it even happen?”

“Urgh… I don’t even want to think about it now” I groaned, shaking my head.

That boy practically short circuited every single time things became remotely sexual.

And honestly, watching it happen was becoming a little too entertaining.

It’s crazy how he could be rude and blunt and then complete panic, bolting out of the room the next minute like I was seconds away from ruining his life.

I shake my head, fighting back the urge to laugh again. “If I get one more nervous gulp from him, I swear I was going to start charging him for emotional damage,” I muttered before grabbing a gummy bear from the open candy bag beside me.

Kaia shook her head slowly, “you are the worst possible person that school could have paired with him.”

“Wrong,” I corrected proudly, “I’m the most interesting thing that’s ever happened to him.”

“That is unfortunately true.” I grinned smugly.

The room fell into a comfortable silence for a moment as Kaia carried on with her skincare routine while I scrolled mindlessly through my phone, with the music playing softly in the room.

“Speaking of irritating boys,” Kaia muttered after a minute or two, causing me to slowly lowered my phone. “I’m this close to taking one out of this world.”

“Let me guess, Elias,” I said and she groans in respond.

I rolled over to my stomach, resting my chin against my palm as I stared at her curious as to what she had to say. “What happened?” I asked slowly.

She lets out a loud sigh before turning to look at me, her brows pulled together. “That idiot had thought it was great idea to block my car door after school, leaving me standing there for nearly five minutes.”

My eyes glittered with amusement as I asked. “What did he want.”

“Beats me.” She says with a visible annoyance, “probably to torment me.” She sighed. “Leaning against my car and smiling like a complete idot.”

“He probably does this things knowing it raffles you up.”

“Exactly, and I hate it that he gets under my skin.” She rolls her eyes before crossing her arms tightly. “And don’t get me started with that stupid nickname he keeps calling, wish I could shove it down his throat and let him choke on it.”

I smiled a bit, knowing Elias only uses it because he knew it irritated her, and judging by the pink slowly creeping into her cheeks, It irritated her a little too much.

“Oh,” my smile stretches even more, and I find myself saying. “You two are absolutely going to fuck.”

Kaia head snapped towards me so fast, I wondered how they remained on her neck, as jaw dropped literally to the ground. “EXCUSE ME?”

“I’m being serious right,” I said calmly. “The tension between the you two is so unbearable even for the innocent civilians.”

“There is no tension.”

“You know,” I said carefully, “for someone you allegedly hate, you talk about him a lot.”

“I talk about him because he’s irritating.”

“Mhm.”

“He is.”

“Mhm.” She grabbed a pillow, throwing it directly at my head, and I barely dodged it while laughing.

“I hate him,” she announced firmly.

“Are you sure.” I teased her slightly, “caused your face says you would climb him like a tree if given the opportunity.”

“DELILAH.” I burst into laughter when I take in the genuine look of horror on her face.

“Oh my gosh,” she groan out, covering her face with her palm. “You are actually disgusting.”

“And you are sexually frustrated.”

“At least I’m not corrupting innocent nerds!”

“In my defense,” I said proudly, “this is simple a deal between two people who need something the other has. So it doesn’t count.” She snorts at this, while I laughed.

Thinking back now, I had absolutely no clue why the two of were always at each others throat any time they meet.

“Okay, on a serious note,” I said, turning to look at her properly. “What’s with the hate between the two of you. You guys have been on each others throat from the beginning.”

Kaia gets up from the chair in front of the mirror, making her way to her pink blush couch. She scoffs. “You really want to

know?”

“Yep. Fill me in with the details.”

“Fine, but just so you know my hatred is completely justified.”

“I’m listening.”

She lets out a sigh. “When we were kids, there was this boy who I thought was cute.”

That caught my attention almost instantly. “You thought a boy cute.”

Vout Ther

“Yes, me, Delilah. Don’t look so shocked.” A smile made its way to my lips as I adjusted against the bed, waiting for her to

continue.

“I think we were nine or ten at that time,” she said. “And I wanted to be friends with him first before anything else because younger me believed more in emotional connections than anything else. Still do by the way.”

“Tragic.” I shake my head.

Kaia rolls her eyes, ignoring me as she continues. “Anyway, I finally worked up the courage to go talk to him after so many days of failing to pick up the courage, and found a perfect time during recess.” Her face twisted like she was recalling every moment that it happen. “And then Elias came out of nowhere.”

“I swear he happens to be spawned out directly from hell,” she muttered, the anger in her voice clear. “Because before I could even say anything, he looked at the boy and told him I fart whenever I get nervous.”

The silence settled in the room for a moment and I bite my lips from laugh as she turned to point at me. “Don’t even think about it.”

“I’m trying not to.”

“No, you’re not.” I pressed my lips together, failing miserably.

“And then,” she continued bitterly, “he gave me a fickname. Fartabelle,” she adds, looking genuinely offended having to repeat it.

I completely lost it as Kai’s groaned loudly while I laughed into the pillow beside me. “It is not funny.”

“It’s a little funny.”

“You have no idea what I had to go through for nearly a week,” she stressed, ” with people called me that.”

“Okay…that’s actually sound horrible.”

“Devastatingly horrible.” She groans, covering her face with her palm. “I didn’t even get to talk to the boy like I wanted to, and douchass kept bringing it up for months without letting it go, even right up till now. Freaking bastard.”
