Chapter 18
By the time the last bell rang, I was already mentally halfway out the building.

My bag hanged loosely off my shoulder as I walked through the crowded hallway with student walking past each other while conversation echoed around me.
Someone nearly knocked into my drink and I shot them a deadly glare causing them to immediately muttered out a sorry before hurrying away.
Honestly, people at this school lacked any form of survival instincts.
Making my way over to my locker, I opened it, fixing my hair quickly in the mirror attached inside the door.
Still perfect, obviously
As I reapplied a thin layer of glosss, a movement down the hallway catches my attention. I raised a brow as I watched Elias dragging Sophie away from Landon like was saving her from a kidnappings.
I paused at that moment, getting intrigued, and couldn’t fight back the smirk that made its way to my face at how entertaining things just turned out.
Sophie looked to be flustered while Elias kept taking to her with a serious expression, he had one had placed lightly over her shoulder as he led her farther down the hall.
Meanwhile Landon stood there watching them leave, his jaw tickled, looking annoyed as hell.
Well..Well… Well..Well
Would you look at that
“Lonely today.” I asked casually, closing my lockers shut before leaning against the one beside his.
Landon glanced toward me briefly before shoving another book into his locker, “What do you want Delilah?”
“Wow..” I frowned, tilting my head to the side, “that sounded depressing.”
“You’ll survive.”
“Damn, is that how far apart we have drifted.” I said, placing my hand over my chest. “I don’t even get a fake smile.” Though my tone was teasing, a part of me was actually hurt.
He sighed quietly before finally looking at me properly. “What do you want Delilah?” he asked again, ignoring my words and that alone annoyed me, because a part of me still cared.
Still cared about a Landon who looked at me differently, like I was his world. And now he looked exhausted, irritated even. Mostly irritated.
I crossed one leg over the other casually. “You used to hate saying goodbye to me when ever school ends and always come up with a way to make me stay longer.”
“Well, that’s not happening anymore.” I was a bit taken aback by the sharpness in is tone before straightening slightly.
Oh…okay then
“What crawled up your ass and apparently died there to have you acting all bitchy.”
Landon drags a hand through his hair roughly. “I don’t have time for this right now.”

“This?” I repeated slowly. “Interesting choice of words considering the fact that you were obsessed with me just eight weeks ago.”
His jaw clenched again. Yep, definitely something else going on here.
I studied him quietly for a second before letting out a sigh. “This is about Sophie, isn’t it?” his expression shifted immediately.
There it was
Bingo
“She won’t talk to me,” he muttered out lowly, that I almost didn’t hear him. “I don’t even know what I might have done wrong to make her pissed or want to ignore me.”
My gaze rested on him for a moment, taking in the confused look on his face and almost laughed. “You can’t be serious right now.”
“What do you mean?” his frown deeps even more, and I realise he truly had no clue what the issue was.
“Are you cluesless of the fact that you flirt with literally anything that has breathe.”
“That’s not true,” I gave him a look and he rolls his eyes. “Okay fine, maybe I do that sometime, but that doesn’t mean I did anything. I’m just being friendly.”
“Mhm.”
“If she had an issue with me being friendly or flirty like you say, why didn’t she tell me then.”
“I’m not some genius who read into people’s mind, Landon.” I scoffed, shrugging. “Also she probable got tired of whatever weird little game this is between you two.”
His expression darkened slightly at that and honestly, I almost felt bad. Almost.
“Look,” I said, adjusting the strap of my bag on my shoulder. “Sophie seems like a sweet girl, and girls like her don’t enjoy feeling like some temporary entertainment.”
Landon looked away, and for a second, I saw actual frustration there, not his usual cocky nonsense. Which was once again interesting.
Before I could say anything else, he grabs his bag, without looking at me. “See you later, Deli.” He muttered distractedly, before walking off down the hall, and I watched him leave, exhaling softly.
Boys were genuinely exhausting creatures.
Shaking my head, I reached for my phone, checking the time to see it was 3:28 PM.
Oh shit
I had like thirty minutes before I needed to head to Caelum’s place for tutoring. A deep sigh leaves my lips, knowing I was back to studying Statistics.
With another sigh, I make my way out of the school, as the late afternoon sun warmed against my skin. The parking lot buzzed around me with noises of students yelling across rows of cars.
I typed quickly while making my way toward my car, sending a text to Kaia.
Leaving first, tutoring session unfortunately awaits me.

Kaia response comes almost instantly.

A laugh escaped me before I could stop it, as I unlocked my car before texting back.
Relax, i’ve got you
Kaia reacted by sending a devil emojis, because apparently maturity skipped her entirely.

Tossing my phone onto the passenger seat, I slide into the driver’s seat as my gaze dropped toward the address Caelum had sent earlier. Quiet neighborhood, about fifteen minutes away.
I stared at it for a second or two before starting the engine, pulling out of the school parking lot with one hand on the wheel, glancing at the address again.
“Here goes fucking nothing,” I muttered under my breath.
AAAA
I was a couple of minute late, okay maybe more to an a couple of minutes when I got over to Caelum’s place.
But I doubt he would mind, I mean I did think of going straight over to his place after school. But then again, I had taken a
u turn back home, because I had to freshen up and wash off all the school stress.
The second the door opened up his eyes flicked toward the clock beside him then back on my face.
“You’re late.”
I stepped past him into the house without shame. “I know. For what is worth, it was only because I had to freshen up and washes every menace that had settle in my body through school hours.”
He doesn’t say anything and instead lets out a quiet exhale as he shuts the door behind me.
My eyes wandered round the space, and was definitely surprised. I mean, I wasn’t sure what I was expecting his house to look like, but it sure wasn’t this.
Everything here looks so warm, and not in the fancy rich way my house was, where every room practically screamed money and emotional neglect.
This place actually felt lived in, with the soft lightening that glowed against the cream walls matched with dark wooden floors that stretches through the hallway. There were framed picture hanged nearly near the staircase, and some somewhere deeper in the house as music played faintly in the background.
It felt weirdly calm, and very domestic
“You can stop judging the furniture now.” Caelum said flatly from behind me.
“I wasn’t judging.” I muttered, looking over my shoulder.
“You were clearly staring.”
“What else am I suppose to do when I’ve got two functioning eyes.” I scoffed at this. “Also, excuse me for also being freaking ass shocked at the fact that your house doesn’t look like a serial killer documentary.”
That earned me the tiniest twitch near his mouth before he turned away. I followed him toward the dinning area, my footsteps instantly stop when I take note of the numbers of books on the table, text books upon text books

There were stacks of paper that far organizingly neat in piles beside notebook filled with handwriting so painfully neat it irritated me on sight.
Highlighters, sticky notes, calculators
Who the hell owned this many pencils voluntarily
“Is there something we don’t know?” I asked softly. “This looks like you are secretly running a classroom?”
Caelum pulls a chair out casually. “Sit.”
Bossy asshole
I don’t say anything else as I take my seat, dropping my bag beside the chair while he took the seat across from me.
“Let’s get started.” He opened one of the statistics books before sliding a worksheet toward me. “Probabilities first, just to be sure you had gone through the example I showed you yesterday.” he said. “Answer the first ten questions.”
I stared down at the paper, letting out another long exhale, before muttering under my breath. “I hate this already,” grabbing the pencil anyway.
For the next twenty minute, the room remained quiet mostly, well, except the scratching of my pencil against my paper and the occasional page turning from Caelum beside me.
And surprisingly, I actually understood some of it. Not all, definitely not all, but enough.
Once I was done answering all ten questions, I slid the worksheet toward him. “Done.”
Caelum looked at the paper, back at me, then at the paper before picking it up, quietly marking through the answers. I watched his expression carefully, and at first, there nothing, till one brow lifted a bit and he looks back at me.
“You got five correct.” I blinked at this.
