“What..” I frowned when Caelum suddenly went rigid across from me, like, completely rigid. His eyes widened and the color drained from his face.
He backed away from me, putting a distance between us fast, you would think I had a crazy contagious disease
“My mom, my mom!” he says again, a bit louder as he helped me pick up my clothes, “she’s home.”
“Shit,” was all I said before attempting to shoved on my underwear and hopped around as I pulled my skirt up my legs.
His gaze darted toward the door before landing back on me, “she’s not supposed to be home until around six,” a hand disappeared into his hair, making the dark strands stick up in different directions.
“Oh my God,” his eyes widened, “what if she finds out I have a girl in my

“Yeah.” He picks up my bag, handing it over to me,” they won’t expect me

My eyebrow lifted, knowing I wasn’t surprise by this, but at the same time it was flattering
I slipped my shoes back on beside the door while and a minute later we were hurrying downstair
I had to bite the inside of
my cheek to stop the amusement, knowing he was reduced to complete panic because his mother might catch him alone with a girl.
We had barely reached the bottom of the staircase when the front door opened, and a woman stepped inside carrying a grocery bag in one hand and a phone in the other.
She pushed the door shut with her foot before looking up, her gaze landed on me,, moving to Caelum then me again.
A smile immediately spread across her face, warm and gentle, not one of those fake ass smiles I was used to seeing.
“You must be the girl my son is tutoring.”
I stopped beside Caelum. “Uh… yeah. That would be me.”
The woman shifted the grocery bag. “I’m Amelia Hart,” she smiled warmly, shifting the grocery bag to her other hand. “ a pleasure to meet you.”
I offered my own smile. “Delilah Quinn,” her hand wrapped around mine, “the pleasure’s all mine.”
For a second, something changed in her expression and brows pulled together slightly. “Quinn,” she tilted her head, “that sounds familiar.” Her eyes narrowed thoughtfully, “I have I heard that name before?”
Oh
Great
Maybe she had heard about my family, that wouldn’t exactly narrow things down
Before she could think too hard about it, Caelum suddenly stepped forward. “Let me take those.”
He reached for the grocery bag and she swatted his hand away, “don’t be silly, I can carry one grocery bag,” then she looked between us, “why don’t you keep your friend company?”

Friend.
If only she knew.
Caelum parted and he was about to say something but unfortunately for him, his mother was faster, “actually, Delilah, why don’t you stay for dinner
The offer surprised me, and it had nothing to do with the fact that she had invited me, but because she actually sounded like she meant it.
Before I could answer, he beats me to it. “she probably has somewhere else to be.” I slowly turned my head, one eyebrow lifted.
Excuse me
The way he said it made it sound like he couldn’t get rid of me fast enough
Gee
Talk about making a girl feel welcome
And the annoying thing was that his comment shouldn’t have bothered me, I didn’t even want to stay.
so why did it sting
Why did it feel like someone had pinched something unpleasant inside my chest?
Was he embarrassed by me? Did he not want me around his family Did he think I would somehow ruin dinner?
For a second our eyes met, and something flashed across his face, was it regret maybe, realising ow that had sounded. But before he could say anything, I smiled at his mother.
“Thank you for the offer.” I adjusted my bag strap, “but Caelum’s right, the lie came easily, “my parents expect me home before six-thirty.”
Bullshit, complete bullshit
My parents were halfway across the world on another business trip.
hothe winen
For all I knew they couldn’t even remember what continent I was currently on.
Still, I smiled. “It was really nice meeting you though.”
Amelia smiled back, “you too.”
My lips curved up a bit to the side. “Honestly,” she tilted her head, “if you hadn’t told me you were Caelum’s mom, I would’ve thought you were his sister.”
Her eyes widened and then she laugh and a faint blush appeared on her cheeks. “Oh, stop.”
I grinned. “I’m serious.”
“You’re sweet,” that was definitely the first time anyone had ever called me sweet. “Well,” she said, “I hope I see you around.”
“Likewise.” I gave her one last smile, “have a lovely night.”
“You too, sweetheart,” then I turned toward Caelum, giving him a look, not too obvious but enough to say you’re a dick.
His eyes widened immediately, good, at least he got the message, and before he could say anything,, I walked out the front

The cool evening air hit my face as I headed toward my car, and the farther I got from the house, the more annoyed I became.
Seriously
‘She probably has somewhere else to be’ what the hell was that supposed to mean? If he didn’t want me there he could’ve just said it.
I reached my car and dug through my bag for my keys, then paused. Wait, why was I even mad?
