took to have her stepping back.

It was tiny, barely noticeable, but I saw it, and judging by the irritation that flashed across her face, she knew I had seen it
too
A slow smile spread across my lips, “If it was a mistake..” my voice came out sweet, the dangerous kind of sweet, “then it was a mistake.”
I leaned slightly around her and looked directly at Harper, watching as the girl gulped so hard I heard it.
Pathetic
“But do yourself a favor,” my smile widened, “don’t make the same mistake twice.” Harper went pale and a few girls shifted uncomfortably. “I won’t be nearly as nice next time.”
Silence stretched around us as nobody spoke or made an attempt to move. The only sound was a whistle blowing somewhere on the football field.
My gaze swept across all of them, “need I remind you who I am?” Several girls immediately looked away, while I folded my arms as I continued. “I’m not someone you want as an enemy.”
The silence that followed again told me they had gotten the message
I turned away, conversation over as I walked past Lindsey, slamming my shoulder into hers, hard. Her eyes widened, she stumbled backward with a startled squeak, and a glorious second, I thought she was actually going to fall.
Unfortunately, somebody caught her
Tragic
Glancing over my shoulder. “Oops,” my smile widened, “mistake.” Then I kept walking.
Behind me, Kaia shot Lindsey and her little group one final glare before jogging to catch up. “What the hell was that?” she asked.
I shrugged. “Probably Lindsey being Lindsey.”
“Yeah, but she’s getting ridiculous,” that was true, Lindsey had always been annoying. Lately, though, It felt like she had made me her full time job.
“Too bad I don’t have the time or the patience to deal with whatever insanity goes on inside her head.” I say as we reached the edge of the field, the football team was practicing nearby.
Players sprinted across the grass while coaches barked instructions, and normally I would’ve ignored them. Football players weren’t exactly known for being intellectually stimulating but my gaze drifted lazily across the field, stopping right on Jace.
He was always looking this way, so the second our eyes met, his face lit up. A grin stretched across his face before he lifted both arms and started waving.
Not a normal wave that any human would do. His was a bit to over the top, one that was practically screaming ‘LOOK AT ME’
“What a fucking weirdo.” I muttered, shaking my head.
Beside me, Kaia immediately started waving back with the exact same enthusiasm and I looked at her as she kept waving.
Some friendships weren’t worth saving
Before Jace could embarrass himself further, Elias walked past and shoved him in the shoulder. Not hard, just enough to

make him stumble.

Jace immediately started complaining while Kaia frowned. “What is with people and shoving each other today?”
As if he had heard her, Elias turned toward us and grinned and before we could look away, he started waving too, exactly like Jace. Big grin and energy, absolutely no shame.
I physically felt myself losing brain cells while Kaia snorted, rolling so hard that I had was certain they had almost disappeared into her skull.
“Idiot.”
“That’s putting it nicely.”
She hooked her arm through mine. “Come on, looking at him for too long ruins my mood.”
“Funny.” I let her drag me away, “I was just thinking the same thing.”
We started toward the school building when I saw him, my steps slowed only for a second, a tiny second, not enough for Kaia to notice.
Hopefully
Caelum stood near the entrance with his backpack hanging from one shoulder,, his glasses sat slightly crooked on his nose and his hands were shoved into his pockets, looking nervous.
What the hell was he doing? Was he waiting for someone? for me?
The thought was ridiculous, so naturally it was the first thing that popped into my head. When our eyes met, I feel my stomach do something strange and I wasn’t sure what it was.
Or maybe I did, maybe I did know how my body became very much aware of him, annoyingly aware, noticing things I shouldn’t be noticing.
The way he had straightened when he saw me and the way his expression changed.
Beside me, Kaia leaned closer, “what do you think he wants?”
