“Why is this giving me a sense of déjà vu.” Kaia’s whisper cut through the silence, and I slowly turned my head to look at her.
She was crouched beside me behind one of the library shelves, her eyes peeking through the small gap between the books like we were two idiots hiding from the police.
Which, honestly, wasn’t far from the truth, except instead of running from the law, we were hiding from a certain someone.
A very annoying, frustrating person.
My eyes drifted back to the person sitting a few aisles away
Caelum
He was completely unaware of our ridiculous little operation, sitting there with a book in his hands, his brows slight furrowed as he read, just like the first time.
The memory hit me harder than I expected as I remembered first time I tried talking to him and how I thought I could charm my way through anything, only for him to look at me like I was the most irritating person he had ever met.
And now, here I was again, in the same bloody situation, about to make the same decision I had done just a couple of weeks
ago.
I let out a quiet sigh and leaned my back against the shelf. “Okay,” I whispered, “plan number one.”
Kaia looked at me. “Please tell me you have a very good and reasonable plan this time.”
I ignored her as I say instead. “I could always walk up to him casually, smiling and acting normal, then say something cute..” I paused for a second, shaking my head, “actually, gno. That sounds highly humiliating.”
She raised an eyebrow as I continued. “Plan number two, I walk up to him, pretending I need help finding a book, start a conversation naturally.” I groaned, shaking my head again, “okay, maybe that’s a little too obvious. He will see through that.”
This time her lips twitched. “I won’t be surprise if he does, so why not just be out with it. Go straight to the point, I doubt it’s that hard.”
I glared at her. “Can you let me have my crisis in peace.”
She held up her hands. “Fine, continue your dramatic breakdown.” I rolled my eyes.
“Plan number three, apologize first. Simple and mature,” I made a face, “Gross.” Kaia laughed quietly.
“And plan four?” I stared at Caelum again.
“Just walk up and tell him I’m sorry and hope he doesn’t look at me like he wants to throw me out of a window.”
She nodded slowly. “Honestly, that one sounds the least insane,” once again I ignored the insult as my fingers tightened around the edge of my skirt.
Why was this making me nervous? This is just completely crazy to feel this way. People get nervous trying to talk to me and get my attention, not the other way around.
And I most definitely don’t chase people around libraries like some desperate..okay..maybe I do.
Kata suddenly turned her head toward me. “why do you look like you’re about to wet yourself?”
“It depends on what wet you’re talking about.”

Chapter 52

“That much is established.” I bat my eyes at her while hers looks a bit stunned.

“Can you get your mind out the gutter for a second and focus on what’s at hand.” She says after a couple of second. “Also quit trying to play it cool by pretending not to be nervous. It’s not going to work.”
I scoffed at this. “Who said anything about being nervous.” She gives me a blank stare, one that said she didn’t believe me and I looked away, adding. “I’m not.”
“Really.” she tilted her head to the side, “then why has your foot been tapping for five minutes.” I looked down, not realising what I had been doing, and my foot stopped instantly.
“I’m just impatient, and want to get this over and done with. Nothing more.”
“Yeah, sure.” She says again, not believe a word I had said, causing me to roll my eyes at this.
“You’re unbelievable.” I muttered and she tilts her head again to the side, smiling at me. Before I could say anything else, Her gaze drifted from me as she looked ahead and her eyes widened.
“Okay..okay..okay.”
I frowned. “What.”
She leaned closer. “He’s making a move.”
My head snapped toward Caelum. “What.” I whispered it a little too loudly when my gaze rested on him, feeling the nerves begin to gather in my skin once again.
Kaia grabbed my shoulders. “He is moving, idiot,” she whipsered a yell when she noticed I was making an attempt to move.

My heart jumped and before I could say anything or think of what was the best approach, she was already shoving me.
“Kaia!” I stumbled forward, barely catching myself as I ended up in the next aisle, and of course, because the universe hated me, Caelum was right there, standing with a book in his hand ad he puts it back on the shelf.
My body froze and so did my brain as it completely stopped working, which was actually great, I mean amazing. Just freaking perfect…
Ugh..
I was about to embarrass myself in front of the one person I most definitely I didn’t want to embarrass myself in front of.
Okay, take a deep breath, Delilah, you’ve got it. You can do this.
“How hard can it be.” I whispered under my breath as I smoothed down my skirt, even though it was already perfect, before runing my fingers through my hair.
I exhale sharply, then grabbed the first book my hand touched, not even bothering to look at the title as I walked toward
him.
“Hey,” my voice came out sweeter than expected, way too sweet, that I mentally scold myself at how fake it sounded. Caelum doesn’t bother turning immediately, so I try again, “can you put this back for me?” I held the book out and he finally looked
at me
And the second our eyes met, I almost regretted every decision that led me here. His emerald eyes were cold, like icy icy cold, sharp, frozen and completely uninterested in my presence.
The irritation burning in them was enough to make me want to take three steps back as his jaw tightened and his gaze

drifted down to looked at the book before returning back at me, resting on my face for barely a second.

Without saying a word, he let out a quiet grunt and walked past me, just like that, leaving me standing there, holding a random book. My confidence in this situation slowly dying.
Wow..okay
Maybe I couldn’t do this, and this was a horrible idea. I think it’s best I just disappear.
Actually, no, absolutely not
I was not letting him make me feel rejected, no way in hell was I thinking of running or giving up half way. I wasn’t going to let his slightly annoying, stubborn self win.
Straightening my shoulders, I take in a deep breath. “Get it together.” I muttered, turning around, to find him already walking away.
“Caelum.” My voice raised slightly as I called his name, but he makes no attempt to stop, even when I trailed behind him, walking fast. “Caelum.”
Still nothing, making it clear that he wasn’t going to make it easy for us to have a simple conversation.
“Okay, wow. Ignoring me, really?” I say after catching up with him.
He kept walking, still nothing and I take the opportunity to look around. Thankfully, the library was almost empty, with barely any audience or people watching.
There was no one seeing me chase after him, which meant my reputation survived another day, even though it was barely.
“Caelum,” this time I try a bit louder and still nothing.
My eyes wandered pass him as I spot Kaia sticking her head from another shelf, looking way too entertained but I ignored
her.
“For Christ sake, Caelum, can you just stop for a second.” I yelled and he finally stopped.
Fkr one second, I thought maybe I won as he he slowly turned. The look in his eyes remained the same as he says coldly and sharp.
“What?” He snapped and I found myself pausing at this, his even now his expression didn’t soften, not even slightly.
I gulped, running a hand through my hair. “I need to talk to you,” I say as I gave him my best look, the one that usually made people forget why they were mad at me.
Surprise everyone, It didn’t work, not even even a little.
He pulled back slightly with an annoyed breath. “Delilah.”
My name coming from his mouth shouldn’t have affected me, but unfortunately, my brain decided to betray me.
“I’m serious,” his eyes narrowed as I continued, “why don’t we just put behind us everything that was said last time?” His expression stayed blank, “our emotions were high, and things escalated more than they should have.”
“Get to the point.” My lips parted stunned when he snapped at me again.
Like what, excused me..what
I stared at him while he looked completely done with me as if I was a conversation he wanted to delete.

Biting the inside of my cheek, for once in tny life, I had no comeback and apparently, that annoyed him too. Because the more I remained silent the more his patience disappeared.
He turned and started walking away again.
Seriously
I rushed forward. “Wait,” but he didn’t, and my hand moved before I could think about it, grabbing his arm.
The second my fingers touched him, he stopped, slowly, his gaze dropped. First to my hand, then back to my face.
And for a second..just a second, something changed in his eyes, a certain warmth I almost didn’t believe I saw. But just as quickly as it came, it it disappeared, his expression hardened again.
