Eleanor's eyelashes quivered as she lifted her despair-filled eyes to the horizon. "No, I'm not going anywhere. I'll stay here with him until the cold takes me. No one can separate us."
Hearing her resolve to die from the cold, everyone's hearts tightened. They tried to persuade her, urging her not to do anything foolish, but she wouldn't listen. Stubborn and resolute, she clung to Bernard, sitting motionless in the snow, waiting for death.
It was Damian who grabbed Eleanor's hand, pressing it firmly, and drew her gaze to his. "Mom, I know how much you loved Dad, and I know this loss is unbearable. But I've already lost my father; I can't lose you too. Please, don't do this..."
Hearing her son's voice beside her, Eleanor slowly turned her eyes to his face. Seeing a visage so reminiscent of Bernard's brought a faint smile to her lips...
"I had prepared myself for your father's departure from this world. Now that he's truly gone, I must follow him. You know, 'In life, we shared everything. In death, so shall we.' No one can stop that."
Damian had always thought his father loved his mother more, but at that moment, he realized the depth of his mother's love matched his father's. But Damian couldn't bear the thought of losing both parents on the day he came of age.
Kneeling in the snow, he moved in front of Eleanor and wrapped his arms around her. "Mom, Dad wanted to see me married and have children. He won't get that chance now, but could you stay for him? Wait until I've fulfilled that wish, then you can follow him?"
If she agreed, then he would never marry—
But...
Eleanor, with her mind already set on joining her husband, couldn't be swayed by an unfulfilled wish, not even for her son.
Seeing Eleanor's resolute demeanor, Damian almost knelt in supplication, begging with all humility for the mother, who already seemed resigned to death, "Mom, for my sake, please stay a bit longer. Please?"
Eleanor remained unmoved, and Damian, driven to desperation, his eyes blazing, grabbed Eleanor's hand and shouted, "Today is my birthday! My father is already gone. Do you really want me to watch my mother die in front of me too?!"

The readers' comments on the novel: A Second Chance At Forever novel (Eleanor and Bernard)
Loved the story, many times caught in so much actually crying with the situation. Wish had more chapters to a better ending....
It's weird that the story went from narrative to slang use. Good story so far though...
