Romy sat across from Starla and gave her a heavy look. "How are you still eating?"
Starla didn't miss a beat. "Why shouldn't I?" Nothing was going to ruin her appetite now.
"Susanna is dead," Romy announced.
The dining room fell into a dead silence. Luce froze.
Starla stared at her friend in sheer disbelief. "When?"
"Five o'clock this morning."
Starla's mind raced. She remembered glancing at her phone earlier—Yardley had started calling her at 5:30 AM. He had called over a dozen times. That meant he must have found Susanna's body, assumed Starla did it, and lost his mind.
She took a sharp breath. "Who did it?"
"Doesn't matter who did it. Right now, everyone thinks it was you."
Of course they did. If Yardley hadn't believed it was her, he wouldn't have blown up her phone.
Just then, Luce's phone rang. He checked the caller ID. "It's David. I need to take this."
