A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 924

"You got exactly what you wanted," Starla said, her voice trembling with cold fury. "He's dead. So why are you still standing here, playing the devoted lover?"

He had put on such a spectacular performance back in Marina City.

At the time, she had actually bought into it. She had convinced herself that maybe getting married a second time wouldn't be so bad if it was to the right guy. She had even been naïve enough to feel insecure, thinking she wasn't good enough for Herbert because of her messy past with Fairfax.

Looking back now, she realized just how pathetic she had been.

A person only needed to be a joke once in their life.

There was no way in hell she was going to let this charade continue. If Herbert wanted to keep acting, he was going to have to do it without her.

Herbert let out a slow sigh. He reached out and grabbed her arm.

Starla immediately jerked away, struggling against his grip.

But in the next second, he yanked her hard into his chest. "Are you crying over him?" he demanded, his large hand pressing firmly against the back of her head, locking her in place.

His deep voice carried a dangerous edge of displeasure.

"Back in Marina City, you were the one who wanted him dead more than anyone."

No one knew better than Herbert just how fiercely she had despised Fairfax.

So what was this reaction? Was she actually grieving now that he was really gone?

Hearing the irritation and faint mockery in his tone, Starla fought him even harder. "Let go of me! I said, let go!"

Herbert was a psychopath.

She was finally seeing it clearly. Fairfax was unhinged, but he wore his madness on his sleeve. Herbert, on the other hand, was a polished psychopath—a wolf in sheep's clothing. He looked like the perfect gentleman, but underneath, he was utterly ruthless.

Being tangled up with a man like him was terrifying because you never knew when he would turn around and rip your throat out.

She had been so incredibly blind.
