A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 925

As Herbert practically dragged Starla outside, she spotted Romy pinned to the dirt by his men. Her face was bruised and bleeding.

Even the toughest fighter couldn't take on an entire squad alone.

"Take her out," Herbert ordered his men coldly the moment he opened the car door for Starla.

Starla's blood ran cold. She stopped dead in her tracks.

Seeing her freeze, Herbert turned back. Behind his gold-rimmed glasses, his eyes were razor-sharp.

"What's wrong?" he asked, his tone suddenly terrifyingly gentle.

The whiplash between his ruthless command and his warm smile made her stomach churn. It only highlighted exactly how disturbed he really was.

"Let her go," Starla demanded.

Herbert's grip on her hand tightened painfully for a fraction of a second before relaxing.

"Why? Because she works for Fairfax?"

"Because I'm sick of watching you people murder like it's nothing."

She absolutely loathed it. The way he tossed out a death sentence so casually, as if he were stepping on an ant. It made her skin crawl.

"Weren't you just as ruthless with Brinley? You wanted her dead too, didn't you?"

Starla stared at him.

She wanted Brinley dead?

It seemed that even if Fairfax had confessed to the General that he was the one who killed Brinley, Herbert still didn't buy it. He was dead set on believing Starla had pulled the strings.

But it didn't matter what he believed anymore.

Honestly, when Herbert and Yardley had backed her into a corner, she had briefly entertained the thought of ending Brinley herself.

But still...

"Don't overthink it. We just aren't the same," she said, refusing to explain herself. She just needed him to understand that they operated on entirely different moral frequencies.

They were not on the same path. And because of that, there would never be a future for them.
