Chapter 11
Ashley’s POV
Flocked myself in the apartment, lost in thoughts about the art exhibition, and the guestlist. There are about ten packs on the East Coast, and I sent invitations to all their alphas.
I hoped that at the exhibition, Leould have a conversation with one of them – maybe that would open up a chance for me to start fresh in a different pack.
Suddenly, a notification popped up on my screen.
Silvia’s latest post. My focus immediately shifted. It was a photo.
The background was one I knew far too well—the living room of the Alpha Manor. Light streamed through the floor–length curtains I had picked out myself, casting a soft glow over her pale face. She sat rp a wheelchair, next to that disgustingly plagiarized painting, wearing a look that was both fragile and smug, like she’d somehow won.
The caption read: “Thank you ‘Moonlight Salon‘ for the invitation–it’s the best gift I’ve received this year. And a special thanks to my Alpha for supporting my career.”
My Alpha.
Hers?
It was just a simple sentence, yet it struck the softest part of my heart and then twisted mercilessly. The comment section had already exploded, turning into a grand ode to her and a public trial of me. “Oh my god, Silvia is so strong! Even in her final moments, she’s still pouring her soul into art!”
“She’s the true leading lady! Talented and kind! She’s even donating all the auction money from her paintings to the orphanage!

“Compared to someone who only plays with flowers and hogs resources like a greedy housewife, Silvia’s on a whole other level.” “The love between Alpha Brian and Silvia is just so moving–more moving than a Shakespearean play!”
I scrolled past those venomous comments with a blank expression. The opinions of these strangers were like dust in the air, meaningless to me. I didn’t care what they thought of me, how they insulted me.
My eyes couldn’t tear away from that photo. That house I had painstakingly decorated–the artwork on the walls, the family photos that used to sit above the fireplace, even though they’d probably been replaced by now–everything familiar from that place seemed to mock me silently, reminding me of my failures. Brian’s “support” for her–the kind I’d spent three years longing for but never once received–was now so easily handed to another woman.
It stung.
A sharp, unavoidable pain surged from the depths of what I thought was my numb heart. And damn it, I had to admit, even though he’d broken me completely, even though I knew he never loved me, there was still a tiny, pathetic part of me clinging to that stupid, fragile love.
It felt like trying to quit smoking. Rationally, I hated him, hated everything about our relationship, and hated the naive fool I used to be. But my body, my soul, still had this lingering craving for nicotine–for him. It was this ingrained need, a pull that I knew would destroy me but somehow, stupidly, couldn’t resist.
No.
I flung my phone to the far end of the couch. I wasn’t going to let myself spiral down again. I wouldn’t let this sad, humiliating
instinct control me.

I had to. I would.
Just then. Vicki called.
“Ashley! Did you see that h’s post?” Vicki’s voice was laced with anger. “She’s such a pathetic copycat! Like, I don’t even recall her having any talent in art before. And now suddenly she’s a painter? Trying to join your art exhibit? That’s just an outright insuit to you!”
“I saw it,” Ashley replied calmly. “But don’t worry, she’ll pay for what she’s done.”
“What are you planning to do?” Vicki’s tone carried a hint of unease.
“You’ll see,” Ashley let out a cold chuckle. “Too bad you won’t be there to witness it.” *
“Yeah, I’ve got an important surgery that day,” Vicki sighed, “so I won’t be able to be there for your big moment. And believe me, I’m really bummed about it. I’d have loved to watch you shine in front of everyone. But, you know, I’ve got patients relying on me, and that surgery could save a little wolf’s life.”
Thanks, Vicki. What you do is amazing–saving lives every single day. You’re honestly incredible.” Ashley’s voice was filled with sincerity. “I can’t even tell you how much I envy you for that.”
“I know you love me, babe. That’s enough for me,” Vicki teased with a laugh. “Alright, no matter what, I’ve got your back. Just get some rest now. You need to be at your best for everything that’s coming.”
A knowing smile played on my lips as a wave of warmth filled my chest. After hanging up, I curled up in bed and quickly drifted into a deep sleep.
The next morning, I woke up to warm sunlight and a rare sense of peace. Wanting a fresh change of mood, I decided to head out and lose myself in the bustle of the city streets.
I wandered aimlessly down the streets until I found myself stopping in front of a baby store window.
There it was- a tiny onesie with little moons and stars printed on it.
My feet froze. Out of nowhere, the softest, sweetest wave of emotion washed over me, unlike anything I’d felt before. I walked in, my fingers brushing over the impossibly soft fabric. Little socks, little hats–each one ridiculously adorable, to the point where I could feel my heart melting.
Thinking about my baby, a tiny life quietly growing inside me, wearing these cute little clothes… without realizing it, a smile crept onto my face. It wasn’t just any smile–it came straight from my heart.
Since I was already buying clothes…
