What are you desing?” HP to dripped with accusation, sach word sharp enough to cut. “Why are you buying all this??
My heart raced like it was about to leap out of my throat. My secret, my child it felt les his piercing gaze might travel everything Panic bubbled up inside me, but I couldn’t let it show. I forced myself to meet his eyes, curving my lips into a cold,
humorless smile.
“You can see for yourself, can’t you?” I gestured to the cart filled with baby clothes. “The orphanage has taken in some newborn pups recently. They need these ”
I deliberately mentioned the orphanage, the same one Silvia used to parade her so–called “kindness.” The words were meant to sting. After all, it had always been me who spearheaded the charity work there.
Sure enough, Brian’s face darkened. He stepped closer, his towering Alpha presence making it hard for me to breathe Grandmother is visiting the estate this weekend,” he said bluntly, his tone leaving no room for negotiation or argument. “The council has issued its final demand.”
He paused, his eyes locking onto me, as if trying to strip away every defense I had. “They gave me an ultimatum–sc months to get you pregnant with an heir.”
An heir.
I stared down at the onesie in the shopping cart, decorated with little moons and stars. My stomach churned violently. My child, my only precious baby, was nothing more than a tool to secure this man’s Alpha status.
“Are you kidding me?” I lifted my head, disbelief written all over my face.
“Not at all. You’re still my Luna. This is your duty,” he said matter–of–factly.
“I said no.” I repeated firmly, my voice low but cutting like a shard of ice. “Brian, we’re divorced. If you want an heir so badly, go ask your new Luna to give you one. Leave me out of it.”
“Ashley!” He growled, his eyes blazing with anger. “Stop acting like a moody teenager. I’ve told you more than once–this separation is only temporary. And the divorce papers haven’t even been officially approved by the council! Legally, you’re still my Luna!”
“So what?” I let out a sarcastic laugh. “I’ve told you before, Brian. The moment you said the word ‘divorce,‘ everything between us ended. For good. If you want, you can make it official right away. And haven’t you and your little girlfriend already tossed my
stuff out?”
“Just because of that?” He stared at me, utterly stunned, as if I were some unreasonable lunatic. “You’re seriously holding onto
seriously something that minor? How many times do I have to say it? I only did it for Silvia’s health.”
“Brian,” I looked him straight in the eyes, my voice steady, “Can you honestly tell me, without flinching, that there isn’t even the tiniest bit of selfishness behind what you’re doing for Silvia? That everything you’ve done is purely out of pity for someone who’s supposedly on her deathbed?”
He said nothing.
Sometimes, silence hurts more than any excuse could.
Just then, his phone buzzed in his pocket. He answered it, and his expression immediately darkened.
“What? She fell down the stairs?!”
“I’m on my way!” he snapped into the phone, then hung up.
He shot me one last look, his eyes filled with something I couldn’t quite read. “I’ve got something to take care of. We need to have a proper talk. Just… give me some time.”

And with that, he formed and storied out of the store without another word.

I watched his figure disappear to the distance, feeling ke all the strength had drained from my body. Paying for the items mechanically, I pushed the shopplag cart out of the store and stuffed everything in my car. Starting the engine, I drove off
