Ashley’s POV

The morning sunlight pierced through the tiny gap in the curtains, stabbing my eyes like sharp needles. I shot up from the bed, my heart pounding so violently it felt like it might break free from my chest. Everything that happened last night replayed in my head like a raging storm, refusing to let me rest

I clutched the edge of the silk blanket tightly, my fingertips still tingling with leftover warmth. God. I actually used my hands to help a toptier Alpha in heat find release.

When his scorching body pressed down on me, there wasn’t even the faintest trace of disgust in me. On the contrary, in some deeply hidden part of me, a shameful craving ignited. I wanted himGod help me I wanted him to claim me completely. I wanted that overpowering cedar scent of his to flood my veins, to nearly drown me in its intensity.

Just thinking about his strong frame, the heat radiating off himmy face burned all over again.

Could it becould Hebert feel something for me, something beyond just duty and partnership?

Hebert really is incredible. He defends me, believes in my abilities. If this were the old me, I wouldn’t have hesitated to reach for him. I’ve been through too much, hurt by love, stuck in this lowly position, and carrying someone else’s child.

I have no confidence, none at all.

But stillif he cares about me, maybe just maybe I could think about starting something new with him.

I took a deep breath, forcing my thoughts to quiet down. Pulling the covers off, I rushed into the bathroom. After a quick wash, I slipped into a sharp deepblue suit.

Last night, I stayed up organizing the airport proposal, but never got the chance to show Hebert. I need him to review it today.

Pacing toward Hebert’s study, I found myself weirdly

eager to see him.

Just as I raised my hand to knock, a voice drifted through the crack in the door -a woman’s voice, sharp and a little full of

herself.

It was Cecilia.

Alpha, about the orphanage birthday partysure, we’ve put out statements clearing things up, but the media’s going crazy. People are questioning the acting Luna’s ability. They’re saying she’s totally unfit for the role of Luna, and now it’s starting to hit your reputation in the pack alliance!

Those words hit me like a punch to the stomach. A sharp pang twisted in my gut, squeezing tighter and tighter.

Even though the scandal at the orphanage was clearly a deliberate setup, as the person in charge of the project, there’s no way I could avoid responsibility.

Three full seconds of silence hung inside the room.

Got it.Hebert’s voice was utterly flat, carrying no hint of emotion.

Cecilia, however, wasn’t letting it go that easily. Her tone rose, fueling the fire, Alpha! This isn’t something we can just brush off! If we let this kind of malicious gossip keep spreading, the reputation of the Bloodmoon Pack—

Are you questioning my decision?Hebert’s low voice cut her off, every word laced with the undeniable authority of a top predator. It was the kind of pressure that allowed no room for argument.

The room instantly grew deathly quiet.

Of course not, respected Alpha,Cecilia said, her tone now respectful.

Leave.Hebert’s command was sharp and final.

Hearing the sound of heets clicking against the carpet getting closer, I instinctively stepped back into the shadows of the hallway, hiding myself completely behind a large marble statue.

The door swung open, and Cecilia stormed out, her face stiff with anger. As the door clicked shut behind her, she stomped off down the hallway, high heels tapping furiously

I waited until her figure completely disappeared around the corner before stepping out from the shadows. Taking a deep breath, I tried to steady my emotions. Then, I lifted my hand and knocked on the study door.
