Chapter 114
When I walked out of the study, my chest was heaving violently.
God, what was I even hoping for in Hebert’s eyes, I’m probably nothing more than an Omega from an enemy territory, not even worthy of a wolf spirit! If it weren’t for my father taking him in back then, he’d probably never even spare me a glance now.
Trying to shake off that feeling, I pulled out my phone, looking for something to distract me.
But the moment I unlocked the screen, there it was another wave of negativity about ine.
“Ashley’s nothing but a disgrace, hurting our pups. She doesn’t deserve to be our Luna!”
“Get her out of our pack!!”
I only managed to skim two comments before I couldn’t bear to scroll further. My mind couldn’t help but wander back to the sleepless nights I’d spent perfecting proposals, racking my brain for the good of this pack.
But none of it mattered.
No matter how hard I worked, no matter how much effort I put in, on this land governed by bloodlines and brute strength, I was insignificant–less than a speck of dust. I couldn’t change a thing, not even protect my own dignity. A crushing sense of despair took root, gripping my soul like a predator sinking its teeth into its prey, refusing to let go.
As I was drowning in the depths of despair, a faint rustling sound of turning pages reached my ears.
I jerked my head up, quickly wiping away the tears streaking down my face. Under the massive oak tree, less than ten yards away, a maid dressed in a coarse uniform was curled up on the grass. She was completely absorbed in the tattered leather–bound book in her hands, so much so that she hadn’t even noticed my presence.
Taking a deep breath, I forced myself to swallow the lump in my throat and stepped onto the lawn, heading toward her.
I asked, trying my best to keep my voice steady.
“What are you reading?
The Omega maid flinched at the sound of my voice breaking her focus. Her head shot up, and when her eyes landed on me, her face instantly pale. Hastily, she scrambled to hide the book behind her back and stammered, “L–Luna! I’m so sorry, I… I
a book about writing. I’ll get back to work right away!”

“You don’t need to be so nervous. A book on writing? That‘

good,” I said, forcing a stiff smile, not wanting to interrupt her
leave intending to retreat back to my room and deal with my grief in solitude.
“Luna, wait!” Her voice called out, trembling but filled with genuine concern. “Why… why were you crying?”
I froze on the spot, my back stiffening instantly. I didn’t want to show my vulnerability in front of a stranger. Turning my head, I came up with a poor excuse to cover it up: “I wasn’t crying. Just… the wind blew some dust into my eyes earlier.”
The maid hesitated for a moment, then stepped closer, her clear eyes reflecting an unshakable determination.
“Luna, is it because of the negative stuff online? I really hope you could be happier,” she said, wringing her apron tightly in her hands, her tone full of sincerity. “You probably don’t realize it, but you’re my idol. Before meeting you, I thought my whole life was set in stone. As an Omega, from the moment I was born, my fate was supposed to be serving tea, cleaning rooms–that’s just how the Moon Goddess made us, something impossible to change.”
She paused briefly, her eyes growing red with unshed tears, but her voice grew stronger: “But then you came along — you completely shattered that belief! You gave me hope! You showed me that, even without the strength or noble lineage, it’s still possible to stand up to those arrogant Alphas and confidently speak your mind! You made me believe that I can chase after my dreams too. My dream is to become a real writer, to tell the stories of us—the ones from the bottom!” I was completely stunned. The shock hit me like a lightning bolt, tearing through the heavy darkness clouding my mind. I stared at the frail girl in front of me, utterly speechless. Me? A pillar of strength? Someone like me, who can’t even control her own fate–how could I possibly be a beacon for anyone else?

“Not just me, Luna,” the maid said, tears finally strearning down her face as she continued, her voice trembling with emotion.” A lot of my friends too–the ones washing dishes in the kitchen or feeding horses in the stables–all of us Omegas. We heard your speech during the meeting. We’ve seen how much effort you’ve put into helping us, the ones at the bottom. It gave us hope again! You can’t give up. You’ve the light we desperately need!”
I locked eyes with her, those eyes burning with passion and sincerity. Suddenly, it felt as if something deep within me, long dormant, surged back to life. It wasn’t just my heart pounding in my chest–it was like a flood of intense, blistering energy pulsing through my veins, filling me with a strength I didn’t realize I had.“.
