I got up quickly, took another shower, and called Marcus. “Check out the current situation with the Blackwood Pack.”
“There’s really no need to dig into it,” Marcus said, his tone half–mocking. “I didn’t mention it before because I thought Brian wasn’t worth your worry. His pack’s gone to hell, thanks to his new fling.”
“You feeling bad for Brian or something? Why don’t you go join the Blackwood Pack instead?” I growled.
“Alright, alright, I get it. Man, you sound like you just swallowed a stick of dynamite.”
After hanging up, I sat back on the bed, forcing myself to steady my breathing.
About an hour later, I pulled myself together and went downstairs to the study. While sifting through some files, I waited for Ashley–my plus–one for tonight’s event.
From the staircase, I caught the faint click of high heels.
I looked up, and for a moment, time just… stopped. The champagne glass in my hand almost slipped to the floor.
God, that was Ashley.
She stepped down, wearing a figure–hugging black velvet gown. The fabric’s rich texture seemed to ripple like liquid, accentuating every perfect curve. The plunging V–neckline highlighted her delicate collarbones, and her usual casual waves had
been swept up, revealing her slender, ivory neck.
She was breathtakingly beautiful, li

goddess of love and beauty descending straight from Mount Olympus. That rare mix of strength and fragility in her aura was magnified at this moment, enough to drive every Alpha in the Southern Alliance mad.
And the key? Black.
The exact shade from my dreams.

a thing. Jus
standing there, you are enough to make me and my wolf lose control.
I was terrified that if I did, I wouldn’t be able to hold myself back any longer.
I stepped down the grand staircase, heels clicking with every careful step. The soft velvet black gown brushed against my ankles, sending an almost imperceptible shiver up my spine. As I lifted my head, my eyes locked with Hebert’s at the base of the stairs.
He stood there in a perfectly tailored black suit. But as soon as his gaze landed on me, he quickly turned away, as if even a second of looking at me was too much.
I didn’t miss that sharp clench in his jaw–it was painfully obvious. His entire presence radiated this cold, intense, almost cruel
seriousness.
God! My stomach churned instantly with unease. Was something wrong with what I was wearing? Did the deep V–neck go too far? Or was it just that this face, from a rival territory, didn’t deserve an outfit this exquisite?
The intense self–doubt coiled around my heart like a venomous snake. I walked up to him and stopped, gripping the edge of my clutch so tightly that my fingers ached.
“Hebert, my dress…” I forced the words out, struggling to find a hint of approval on his rigid, marble–like face.
“I’ve got some urgent work to handle,” he cut me off abruptly. His voice was low and rough, and he didn’t even spare me a glance. His gaze went right past my shoulder and landed stiffly on the hall wall. “Take the car outside and head to the banquet
first. Don’t wait for me.”

Before I could respond, he slammed the champagne glass onto a nearby tray and turned away. His strides were long and firm as he headed upstairs, leaving no room for any discussion.
I froze on the spot, like someone had dumped a bucket of ice water over me. Confusion and a deep, indescribable disappointment hit me all at once. He couldn’t even offer me a simple, empty compliment?
But what could I say? He was the Bloodmoon Pack’s top Alpha, a man who ruled with an iron fist. His word was law. And me? I was just a stand–in Luna he hired. I had no right–absolutely no right–to–question his plans.
I took a deep breath, forcing myself to swallow the bitterness that welled up inside, thert turned and walked toward the black sedan that had been waiting for a while.
Half an hour later, the car came to a stop in front of the most luxurious estate hotel within the alliance.
As I stepped out of the car, holding up my gown, the scene before me took my breath away. This really was the Lunar Gala- undoubtedly the grandest social power gathering in the entire southern werewolf alliance. The massive crystal chandeliers illuminated the lavish hall as if it were daylight, and the air was thick with the heavy scent of expensive perfumes mingling with the domineering presence of Alpha pheromones.
I took another deep breath, straightened my back, and tried to channel the absolute aura befitting a Luna. But just as I stepped onto the thick red carpet and prepared to show my invitation to the security at the entrance, a piercingly shrill voice, dripping with fake sweetness, rang out from my right.
“Oh my God! Is there something seriously wrong with my eyes?”
I turned sharply to see the source of the voice
Silvia.
She was clad in an absurdly gaudy pink ball gown, overloaded with diamonds. Her outfit
