Chapter 131
Hebert’s large, firm hand gripped my waist tightly, the heat from his touch searing into my skin. The mix of crisp cedarwood and the overpowering dominance of a top–tier Alpha radiating from him was like a raging snowstorm, engulfing me entirely. My breath hitched, heart pounding wildly against my chest like a war drum being furiously
struck.
Sweat beaded on Paul’s forehead, his body trembling slightly.
“Hebert, this is pure arrogance!” Paul swallowed hard, forcing himself to stand upright, trying to salvage a shred of Alpha pride. “You have no reason to keep Ashley here! To the vast and wealthy Bloodmoon Pack, she’s just a servant, a mere employee handling trivial tasks! But for us in Silvermoon Pack, she’s irreplaceable! She’s family- she’s the noble bloodline of our former Alpha, vital to our pack’s survival!”
Family.
That bitter, mocking word sliced through me like a sharp knife. Paul, that ruthless usurper, had the audacity to bring up “family” in front of me? Unbelievable.
I wanted to curse him out so badly, but the words got stuck, like a rough piece of cotton jammed into my throat. I stayed silent.
Paul hit me right where it hurt the most–Silvermoon Pack. That land bore the noble blood of my parents, held the memories of my beautiful childhood. It was my home, and I couldn’t just cruelly cut ties and walk away.
Meanwhile, the hand gripping my waist tightened, the pressure sharp enough to make me wince in pain. Hebert leaned down slowly, his gaze fixed on me. He didn’t shout like some reckless fool would, but the dangerous undertone in his eyes felt more terrifying than any raging storm.
“You didn’t deny him, Ashley.” Hebert’s voice was low, carrying a suffocating sense of dominance. “You want to leave Bloodmoon Pack too, don’t you? Answer me.

I met his piercing gaze, every breath felt like it was being squeezed out of me. I bit down hard on my lower lip, forcing myself to stay calm, no matter what. “According to the agreement we made, Hebert,” I forced myself to speak, though my throat felt tight, “once I’ve sorted out all the work for Bloodmoon Pack and finished the acting Luna term, I was always meant to leave. That’s what we agreed on right from the start. I honestly don’t understand why you’re reacting like this now.”
It was odd. Deep down, I found myself feeling… something. A strange, fleeting flicker of anticipation. It wasn’t logical, and I hated to admit even to myself that it was there.
Hebert’s jaw tightened instantly, the muscles rigid like stone. His eyes burned with a sharp, angry intensity. “It’s not time yet, Ashley!” he cut me off, his tone leaving no room for argument, dictatorial and unyielding. “You promised to handle the mess inside Bloodmoon Pack for me! Those damn issues are far from sorted! Until I give you explicit permission, you’re not going anywhere!”
Ah. So that’s how it is.
My chest ached in a sudden pang of disappointment- a cruel tug of realization. Of course. Hebert, the mighty Alpha commanding the entire Southern Alliance, how could he possibly care about someone like me, an Omega without even a wolf spirit? No, what he really cared about was my efficiency, my ability to organize the chaos behind the scenes for him. He was only worried that once I was gone, his enormous territory would grind to a halt. That was it. Nothing more.
I fought hard to push down the bitterness rising in my chest, locking away every ounce of vulnerability in the deepest corners of my soul. I couldn’t—no, I wouldn’t let this arrogant Alpha catch even a glimpse of my

weakness.
“You can rest easy, Hebert.” I forced a cold, detached smile, one utterly devoid of warmth. “When I make a promise, I keep it. I’ll stay here, finish all the work for the Bloodmoon Pack, and before I leave, I’ll ensure everything is properly handed over. Your territory won’t suffer even the slightest setback because of me ”
“Don’t you dare!” Hebert’s breathing grew heavy, anger blazing in his eyes like it could burn me alive.
“This is absolutely unacceptable!” Paul’s exasperated voice suddenly cut in, shattering the tension between us. The old fox was as frantic as a cornered rat, even going so far as to step forward despite Hebert’s intimidating presence. “Ashley! You can’t waste another second here! You need to come back to Silvermoon Pack with me right now!”
I frowned, my confusion deepening.
“What’s got you so worked up, Uncle Paul?” I demanded sharply, giving him no room to wiggle out of an answer” Even if Silvermoon Pack is crumbling, a few months won’t make or break it. What are you hiding from me?”
Paul’s gaze flickered, unable to meet her eyes. He wrung his hands together anxiously, cold sweat tracing the deep lines on his forehead. After a moment of hesitation, he let out a heavy sigh.
“Oh, Ashley, things are really bad,” Paul said, his voice breaking as if on the verge of tears. His face was painted in despair. “The pack’s a total mess! The hole in the winter reserve funds–it’s like staring into an endless abyss! If someone like you, with your expertise, doesn’t come back to take charge, Silvermoon Pack won’t even make it to the next full moon before it’s completely bankrupt! The elderly, the weak, the kids… they’re going to starve out there in the freezing snow! I’m begging you, do it for your parents‘ sake–come back and save us!”
His words hit like a punch to the gut. Images of the
pack members, who once thrived under my parents‘ protection, now waiting to freeze and starve, overwhelmed me. Guilt and anguish churned through my chest, threatening to swallow me whole.
Just as my sympathy was about to take over, a voice cut through the tension like a blade.
“You’re welcome to try, Paul.” Hebert’s voice rang out, sharp and icy, filling the room.
He turned his head slowly, and his dark, obsidian–colored eyes locked onto Paul’s like a predator setting its sights
on prey.
