Chapter 134

Brian’s POV

Your speech was pretty impressive today.

Honestly, I never thought Ashley could shine like that.

The dim hallway lights cast mesmerizing shadows on her refined face. She was dressed in a sleek black gown, like a black rose blooming arrogantly in the dark, exuding this confidenceone I didn’t recognize, one that sent chills down my spine.

Just ten minutes ago, as she stood at the center of that grand podium, delivering her speech to the most prominent noble Alphas in the entire alliance, my heart felt like it was on the verge of exploding.

To be fair, for the past few years, Ashley was always just a faint figure in my memory, like a background prop. She had no wolf spirit, just a lowly Omega with zero capability for selfpreservation. Back in my Blackwood Pack, she was more like a pitiful parasite, tiptoeing around to please me, desperate for even the tiniest scraps of my attention or pity.

I used to think she wouldn’t last a day without me. I mean, someone like her? An Omega with no standing, barely hanging on in the cutthroat world of werewolves? No way. So when she stormed out, claiming she’d had enough, I didn’t even blink. I thought, Give it three days, maybe less. She’ll come crawling back, like a stray dog in the rain, begging for my protection.

But, oh no, life had other plansand it hit me like a brick to the face.

After she left, everything at Blackwood fell to pieces. Financial chaos, messedup schedulesit all spiraled out of control. My life became a nonstop disaster. And her? She didn’t just surviveno, she thrived. She went to Bloodmoon Pack and somehow became their acting Luna! Suddenly, there she was, standing at the top with all the poise and power I never thought she had, practically glowing under the spotlight.

I’ll never forget seeing her up there during the alliance meeting, confidently outlining her proposal for an airport expansion to support lowertier Omegas. My first reaction? Shock. Utter disbelief.

Then came the worry.

The noble Alphas in the roomthose smug, outoftouch aristocratserupted in anger. The way they looked at her, like she was already a dead woman walkingIt made my blood run cold. In that moment, I had this insane urge to storm the stage, drag her down, and get her out of harm’s way.

She has no idea what kind of hornet’s nest she’s just kicked. Sweet, naive Ashley, thinking she can challenge the untouchable higherups of the alliance? It’s not courage. It’s a death wish.

I paced anxiously in the corridor outside the restroom for a full five minutes, my frustration building with passing second.

Step aside, Alpha Brian,Ashley said coldly. Her clear eyes held not a shred of warmth, just pure, unfiltered disdain. She even took a deliberate step back, as if I were something filthy she couldn’t bear to get close to.

Her contempt hit my pride like a slap in the face.

Have you completely lost your mind, Ashley?I growled, lowering my voice but lacing it with anger. I stepped forward, blocking her path. Do you even realize what kind of mess you just caused in there? That ridiculous Omega employment plan of yours is going to enrage the nobles. You’re playing with fire, and you don’t even see it!

Ashley raised her chin, an air of superiority radiating off her as her lips curled into a mocking smirk.

This has nothing to do with you, Alpha of the Blackwood Pack, she said, her words cold and venomous, each one delivered with biting precision. It’s Bloodmoon Pack’s strategy. Hebert backs me, and I have every right to carry this plan out as intended. Maybe you should focus on managing that crumbling territory of yours instead.

Backs you?I laughed bitterly, unable to mask the ridicule in my tone. I couldn’t believe how naive she was being.

Ashley! Do you really think that Slippery Hebert actually cares about you? That he’s genuinely supporting your ideas?

Ashley’s eyes instantly turned cold, but she didn’t say a word.

I caught that tiny flicker in her gaze, and it sent a twisted thrill through me. I had to tear down Hebert’s fake facade. She needed to see the truth for what it was!

Use your brain for once!I growled, my voice low but sharp with urgency. Hebert is a powerful Alpha! If he truly cared about you, if he saw you as his mate, he’d be protecting you shielding you like you’re the most precious thing in the world! He wouldn’t let you stand on that volatile stage alone, taking the brunt of those entitled Alphashate!

He’s playing you, Ashley!I spat out, every word saturated with bitterness. He doesn’t want to get his hands dirty pushing for this reckless project, so he’s using you as a convenient pawn! To him, you’re just a disposable Omega. If things go south, if the nobles turn against him, he won’t hesitate to throw you under the bus. He might even offer you up as a scapegoat to save his own skin. It’s textbook manipulation, like something straight out of a Trojan horse play!
