Chapter 137
I scanned the bustling hall twice, searching for that distinctly commanding figure of his, but there was no sign of him anywhere.
About half an hour later.
“Impressive speech, Ms. Ashley.” A deep, cello–like voice spoke from above me.
I looked up instantly. It was Boris, the bear leader who controlled the massive transportation network. He stood there, holding a glass of bourbon, his demeanor effortlessly gentlemanly.
“You’re too kind, Chief Boris.” I rose gracefully from my seat, offering him a polite smile in return.
“I’m completely serious about this.” Boris looked at me with a sincere expression. “Since you’re the key person for this project, I’d like to formally invite you to visit our Grizzly Pack. Being there in person would definitely make sorting out the finer details way more efficient.”
Oh my god, what an absolutely tempting offer!
My eyes lit up instantly. For a massive project like this, an on–site visit was undoubtedly a must!
“That’s honestly a fantastic suggestion, Chief Boris,” I responded, my excitement evident. But almost immediately, I sighed with a hint of regret. “The thing is, there are still some tasks within Bloodmoon Pack that need my attention. I can’t just leave right away tomorrow.”
“That’s no problem at all.” Boris let out a hearty laugh. “Ashley, you’re welcome to visit our pack anytime.”
And just as the atmosphere hit a perfect note of warmth and agreement, it happened.
A wave of dense scent suddenly swept in–rich with Scotch whiskey and a sharp, chilling cedarwood tang.
My spine went rigid in an instant.
Out of nowhere, Hebert was right beside me. His towering frame practically enveloped me, radiating an air of dominance so heavy that the temperature seemed to take a dive.
“What interesting topic are we discussing here?” His voice was low, with a rough edge that carried an unmistakably dangerous undertone.
The sharp smell of alcohol was unmistakable. He’d been drinking. Boris keenly sensed the hostile tension in the air. He raised his glass politely. “We were just
Vessing how, when Ms. Ashley visits our pack, I’d personally
ensure she’s warmly welcomed. Well then, I’ve got some urgent matters to attend to, so I’ll be taking my leave now.”
With that, Boris swiftly turned and disappeared into the crowd.
The moment he vanished, Hebert’s handsome face hardened into a chilling mask. A frightening frost gleamed in his expression, and when he snapped his head toward me, his piercing blue eyes locked onto mine. The fury swirling in his gaze burned so intensely it felt like it could incinerate me on the spot.
“You’re planning to go to the bears‘ pack?” Hebert snarled, his words grinding out between clenched teeth. “Why didn’t you discuss this with me first?”
I stared at him, stunned, my stomach churning at his unreasonable accusations. “For Moon Goddess‘ sake, Hebert! I’m just doing my job! Isn’t that what I’m supposed to do as the one leading this project? How else am I going to move things forward without visiting the site?”

“Your job?” Hebert let out a sharp, mocking laugh, the sound so cutting it felt like glass shattering. “And what about Blackwood Pack? You easily agreed to help that loser with their problems too! Or your so–called caring uncle
