Chapter 151

Losing Ashley felt like my soulwas torn apart.
The moment that silver bond our link-snapped completely on the altar at the Pack Council Hall, the pain was unbearable was like a thousand rusty blades slicing through my insides. My wolf howled, this heart-wrenching, gut-deep cry of despai swallowed me whole. I couldn’t even breathe properly. Every single breath I managed to drag in burned like fire tearing thro my lungs.
God, this pain was going to kill me.
After the ceremony, I stumbled back to the dim study in Blackwood Manor and locked the door behind me. The darker the ro
got, the brighter the memories of Ashley came crashing back, each one clearer and more vivid than the last.
The way she used to prepare breakfast for me in the morning sunlight, her gentle profile glowing softly in the golden warmt Those clear eyes of hers, once filled with absolute admiration for me. The light, familiar scent that lingered on her clothes. A those memories I had carelessly discarded in my arrogance now felt like sharp needles stabbing straight into my heart. I’d destroyed it all with my own hands. I was the one who drove Ashley-the Ashley who loved me with everything she had-
straight into Hebert’s vicious grasp!
As I sat there in my study, my head buried in my hands, my fingers digging into my hair as if that might somehow dull the ac inside me, the door creaked open.
The overpowering scent of strong perfume hit me instantly, sharp and deliberate. Silvia stepped in. She wore a thin, white lac dress, her eyes rimmed with red, playing up the image of a fragile, pitiable woman.
She walked right over without hesitation, wrapping both arms tightly around my trembling shoulders.
“Brian, stop torturing yourself like this,” Silvia said, her voice laced with an almost artificial tenderness. “You still have me. I’ not going anywhere. Unlike… unlike that heartless woman, I would never leave you. I will love you with everything I have. Always.”
A while ago, I might’ve been moved, maybe even comforted by such a display. But now? Hearing her sugary-sweet tone, something odd ripple through me -a prickly, almost instinctive sense of unease.
And… how had she recovered so fast?
I slowly raised my head, my bloodshot eyes locking onto her face, which was carefully made up to perfection.
I felt
“You were supposed to be gravely ill, Silvia,” my voice was rough, laced with an undeniable chill. “The doctors were certain — your organs were reported to be failing rapidly. Someone on the brink of death, how could they possibly have the strength to promise forever to me? And with your condition back then, there’s no way you could’ve handled… well, the things we’ve done. But now, you show no signs of weakness at all.”
Silvia froze, her body stiffening noticeably. That usual innocent look in her eyes flickered with sheer panic, though she quickly. tried to mask it, albeit clumsily.
“L… it’s the blessing of the Moon Goddess!” she blurted out, her voice shaky with tension. “Ever since I stayed by your side, feeling your strong Alpha presence, my body started to recover miraculously! Brian, this is proof-we’re meant to be together?” What an absolute joke. I stared at her, my gaze cold and unyielding. The way her eyes darted nervously and how her tingers unconsciously tightened around the hem of her dress–it was all screaming one thing, she was lying.
“Is that so?” I shrugged off her touch and rose abruptly from the oversized leather chair. “If this miraculous recovery of yours is real, then I need to see your latest medical reports. Right now. I want to know exactly how ‘healthy’ you are.
Silvia was completely rattled. She stumbled back a step, awkwardly trying to change the subject. “Brian, you’ve had such a rough day already. Why do we have to focus on these cold medical reports? I just want to comfort you. Let’s go to the bedroom, okay? Whatever you want, I’ll do it for your ”

“Shut up!” I snapped, my patience worn thin as I growled sharply. “For the last time–I want the results, and I want them now We’re going to the hospital this instant!”
I didn’t give her any chance to argue. Grabbing her wrist firmly, I yanked her out of the study and headed straight for the door.
In the carriage to the Blackwood Pack’s private hospital, the air could not have been heavier. Silvia curled up miserably in the f corner, tears streaming down her face like a broken faucet. She glared at me and lashed out, her voice cracking, “Why don’t yo trust me, Brian? I’ve given you everything, and you repay me with humiliation like this?”
Leaning back against the leather seat, I closed my eyes, exhaustion overtaking me. I couldn’t bring myself to argue with her- just wasn’t worth it. My chest still ached deeply from losing Ashley. I had no energy to deal with her outbursts. All I cared abou was finding the truth-nothing else mattered.
For a brief second, though, as she cried and shot those biting words at me, a fleeting thought crossed my sluggish mind. Could have gotten it wrong? Could she really just be an innocent woman recovering from a serious illness?
