Chapter 169
Hebert’s POV
Ever since we got back to the Bloodmoon Pack, Ashley had turned into some kind of workaholic machine. Days passed, and I could hardly catch a glimpse of her. Every time I tried to greet her in the morning with a warto kiss, she was already long gone. My mind kept replaying the memories of those crazy, passionate nights we had not so long ago.
So, I made what I thought was a brilliant decision. I ordered the maids to move every single personal item from Ashley’s room into my master bedroom. I was done with this ridiculous separated living arrangement! We had already given ourselves to each other so deeply–she should be sleeping in my arms every night, no question about it.
But I didn’t stop there. To make sure she’d stay close to me a bit longer, I even contacted Boris through his encrypted communicator and forced a delay on her trip to the Grizzly Pack. In my mind, it seemed like the perfect surprise. She’d been exhausted lately, and all I wanted was for her to have more time to relax and, selfishly, for me to have more time to love her.
Turns out, I couldn’t have been more wrong.
The door to my study slammed open with a loud bang. Ashley stormed straight up to my desk.
“Hebert!” She shouted my name sharply, her voice packed with disbelief and rage. “What on earth were you thinking? Why did you mess with my schedule for heading to Boris territory without even telling me?”
I set down the crystal glass in my hand gracefully, keeping my eyes on her. My calm Alpha demeanor was meant to settle her stormy emotions.
“Take it easy, Ashley,” I said, my tone low and indulgent. “I just wanted more time with you, that’s all. Those boring project deadlines they can wait. It won’t make a difference.”
“Won’t make a difference?!” She shot back, her voice cracking under fury. Her cheeks practically glowed red with outrage. “I’m the lead on this project, Hebert! And yet I’m the last to find out about my trip being delayed? You took away my right to know!”
I frowned slightly, confused by her overreaction. I genuinely couldn’t fathom why she was this upset.
“Any problems caused by this minor delay, I’ll personally handle it as Bloodmoon Pack’s Alpha,” I assured her, keeping my voice steady. “You’ve got nothing to worry about, Ashley. I’ve got it all under control.”
That comment didn’t calm her down–not even close. It was like throwing gasoline onto a blazing fire. Her beautiful eyes burned with a mix of intense disappointment and raw pain.
“You don’t get it at all!” she spat, her voice rough with anger. “I don’t want to talk to you!”
She spun around sharply, like a whirlwind tearing through the room, and stormed out of the study.
I let out a helpless sigh, pushing myself up from the chair and following her. In my mind, I was sure–if I could just wrap her in a warm hug, she’d eventually melt and let go of her anger.
But as I reached the doorway to her original room, a piercing, heart–stopping scream shattered the air.
“Where’s all my stuff?!”
I stepped into the room in a hurry. Ashley stood frozen in the middle, staring at the now–bare space with a look of sheer disbelief. Her precious blueprints, her threadbare old clothes, even that plain comb of hers–they were all gone.
She slowly turned to face me, her expression morphing into unrestrained fury. It was like Mount Vesuvius erupting, a wave of searing anger consuming every last shred of her composure.
“Hebert! You arrogant tyrant!” She jabbed a finger at my face, her voice shaking with raw emotion. “What gives you the right to mess with my stuff without my clear consent? Who do you think you are, forcing me to change rooms like that?”
