r finger practically poked up in the chest as the sneered, voice dripping with contempt. “Oh yeah, that’s right! You were off playing musemaid to your oh so delicate little first love because she slipped and twisted her ankle. Meanwhile, Ashley is bleeding and terrified, but no you didn’t even look at your phone”
Vicki’s voire lowered, sharp as a blade “And now you’re standing here blaming her? Demeaning her? You…” she spet the word like poison. …are pathetic. Alpha? You’re nothing but a disgrace to this pack.”
Ashley’s POV
华
I had nothing to say.
Because everything Vicki said was true.
Every word felt like a glowing brand, burning itself into my heart—a heart he’d already shattered, leaving it bleeding and raw. 1 could feel the weight of the air in the hospital room, heavy and cold, turning into shards of ice that stabbed into my lungs.
Brian was standing right there, his face–normally so godlike and flawless–now showing cracks for the first time: But guilt? No, that was never in his repertoire. What I saw instead was fury–an anger born from being called out in front of others, his authority questioned.
“Have you said enough?” His voice broke through, deep and ominous, like the calm before a storm. His dark, piercing gaze turned straight to me, deliberately acting as if Vicki didn’t exist. “Vicki, I’ve tolerated your disrespect because of who your father is. But this is your only warning. Leave now, or I can’t guarantee my claws won’t rip your heart out.”
Nobody disobeys an Alpha’s command, especially not one like Brian. His threats weren’t just empty words–they were promises wrapped in steel.
I gave Vicki the look, silently telling her to leave. I couldn’t bear the thought of her having to crawl back to that awful father of hers for help. She hated him more than anything.
And then, it was just me and him.
“If you’re just here to check on some weak little wolf in your territory, Alpha Brian, then let me assure you, message received loud and clear. But if you’ve got nothing else to command, I’d like to get some rest.” My voice was cold, each word deliberately
distant.
“Grandma called,” he said abruptly, almost tossing the words at me like a stone. “The family dinner is on as usual. She wants you to handle the arrangements.”
Family dinner.
ľ
The words hit a nerve, twisting the ache in my chest. His grandmother–the only one in that freezing manor who ever genuinely cared for me. She loved my apple pie, adored listening to me play the piano. She always praised me so sincerely.
She’d been my one ray of warmth in that cold, cold house.
But I’d made up my mind. If I was cutting ties with Brian, then that had to include his family too. I had to let go of everything.
“No.” The word came out firm, without hesitation.
“Ashley!” His voice was sharp, heavy with warning.
“I said no.” I lifted my eyes to meet his, staring straight into the fiery rage burning in them. “Brian, as much as I love your grandmother and appreciate her kindness, I’m not Blackwood Pack’s Luna anymore. I think when I explain this to her, she’ll
understand.”
“Understand?” He let out a short, bitter laugh, oozing contempt. “Understand what? That you’re throwing away your responsibilities on a whim? That you’ve run away from home like a child, sulking over nothing?”

“And stop acting
you’re so fragile that running away is the only thing you know how to do.”
With that, he turned and walked out
His words kept echoing in my mind, every sentence carving deeper wounds into a heart already tor to sheeds. Did he even realize what he was saying? All my fears, all my pain–was that what he thought of them? Just childish whims? If he’d actually read the report about the attack, he might’ve understood the scars I was carrying
But he didn’t care. He was just angry that I wasn’t compliant anymore, that I wasn’t his obedient little Luna. He didn’t see the love I’d once given him – how deeply I’d loved him. And I vowed in that moment, he never would. He didn’t deserve to know.
