Abandoned While Pregnant, Claimed by the Alpha novel Chapter 19

Brian’s POV

I couldn’t stand another second in that darnn hospital room.

Every single accusation from Vicki’s obnoxious friend was like a hammer pounding against my temples. They teamed up, painting me as some coldhearted jerk.

Ridiculous.

I did exactly what an Alpha is supposed to do make the most logical call. Silvia’s accident was a fact, and Ashley’s socalled plea for help was full of suspicious coincidences. My decision back then was the right one. She needed that wakeup call. If not, I can’t promise she’d escape unscathed next time she runs headfirst into trouble. I hoped my words had krecked some sense into hershe had to realize that as Luna, her recklessness wasn’t just her problem.

I stormed out of the hospital, the icy air biting into my lungs but doing nothing to quench the fire raging inside me. By the time I got back to the Alpha Manor, that agitation was almost unbearable.

And then, I saw Silvia.

She was sitting in the living room in her wheelchair, a soft cashmere blanket draped over her lap. Sunlight streamed through the windows, lighting up her frail features, making her look like some fragile, breakable angel. The moment she saw me, worry and a flicker of something like fear clouded her eyes. Brian, her soft voice was like a calming balm, instantly soothing some of my frustration. You’re back. Did everythinggo okay? Ashleyshe’s fine, right? About those posts, II didn’t mean to-Seeing her so cautious, almost trembling, stirred something complicated in me. On one hand, I was definitely angry at her for acting without askingthose damn posts nearly put Ashley in danger. But on the other hand, seeing her like this, so nervous and fragile, like a frightened little animal, how could I really stay mad at her?

She’s always like thisalways thinking about others, even when she’s struggling herself. That genuine kindness of hers was such a sharp contrast to Ashley’s cold, calculating nature.

She’s fine,I replied curtly, not wanting to discuss that woman who seemed to do nothing but bring me trouble. Honestly, if Ashley hadn’t stubbornly moved out of the Alpha Manor, none of this would’ve happened to her. Wasn’t all of this just the consequence of her own choices, of her constant defiance?

How could I blame Silvia? All she wanted was to share her happiness, to let everyone know I was behind her. What was so wrong about that?

I’m glad,Silvia said, letting out a relieved sigh. Then, as if mustering all her courage, she wheeled herself over to me and looked up with those earnest eyes of hers. Brian, I know you’ve been overwhelmed latelywith the pack andAshley’s situation. Grandmother’s banquet is just around the corner. Please, let me handle it for you.

I frowned. No, your health won’t allow it

It’s just a sprained ankle, Brian. It’s not that big of a deal, she cut me off, her voice carrying a hint of pleading. I need to do something, or I’ll feel completely useless. If you need help, I can organize the banquet. Don’t forget, I’m still part of this pack, right?

The sincerity and longing in her eyes made it impossible for me to say no.

Look at her a woman with only a few months left to live, still trying to shoulder some of my burdens. And then there’s Ashley -healthy, given everything she could possibly wantand all she ever does is create chaos and trouble for me.

Fine,I finally conceded. The bright, satisfied smile that instantly lit up her face somehow eased the knot of frustration Ashley had left festering in me.

I immediately pulled out my phone and called my grandmother to update her. Grandmother, Ashley isn’t feeling well, so she won’t be handling the banquet this time. I’ve arranged for someone else to take care of it.
