Chapter 34

Silvia suddenly collapsed, immediately drawing everyone’s attention.

Silvia was perfectly healthy.

From my perspective, she was just putting on this little act to get out of her awkward situation.

Honestly, if anyone paid even a bit of attention, they’d easily see right through Silvia’s amateurish performance.

But, of course, Brian trusted her completely, without a shred of doubt.

“Ashley! What did you do?!” Brian’s roar came at me like an enraged beast. He stormed over, scooping Silvia’s “fragile” body into his arms with all the urgency in the world. He carefully cradled her head, his sapphire-blue eyes brimming with distress

and tenderness.

For a moment, a sharp sting pierced my heart.

That gentleness in his eyes? It was something I never had.

There was a time when I cared about that. A lot.

But since that day—the day I barely survived the attack from those rogue wolves—my heart no longer followed him.

Still, I’d be lying if I said it didn’t hurt, even just a little, every now and then.

Not that it matters anymore.

I know there will come a day when I feel nothing for Brian. Absolutely nothing.

That day is coming soon-sooner than he probably thinks.

Brian turned to glare at me, his eyes blazing with anger and disgust. The way he looked at me was… unbearable, like I was some foul, rotten trash he couldn’t stand to be near. “You’ve gone too far!” he snarled at me. “She’s a patient! Someone who only has a few months left to live! How can you be so cruel? How can you humiliate her like that in front of everyone? Is your heart made of stone?”

A wave of nausea rolled through me-not from fear, but from pure disgust.

Here we go again. Always the same script. The moment Silvia so much as sheds a tear or frowns slightly, somehow I’m the

villain of the story.

I’m the cruel one, the heartless one. The one ruining their so-called ‘great love story.’

“Come to the hospital with me,” he ordered, his tone sharp and commanding, like I was some low-ranking soldier under his command. “Take responsibility for what you did. Apologize to her!”

I almost laughed out loud.

Apologize? To the woman who stole my work, tried to ruin my reputation, and possibly orchestrated that attack to murder my child? That has to be the biggest joke of the year.

“I’m not going,” I said, my voice cold and cutting like an arctic wind.

“What did you just say?” Brian’s expression darkened immediately, his face twisting in fury. Holding Silvia in his arms, he stood and started toward me, his looming figure radiating a suffocating pressure. “I’ll say it one more time-come with me.”

“Brian, you know full well.” I straightened my spine, forcing myself to meet his stormy gaze. “We’re getting a divorce. Legally speaking, there’s nothing left between us. You have no right to order me around anymore.”

He let out a sharp, mocking laugh, then suddenly reached out, grabbing my wrist with a crushing force, like he meant to break it. “Ashley, have you forgotten? As long as the divorce agreement isn’t approved by the council, you’re still my Luna, still mine!

Your body, your will, all of you belongs to me! What I say, you follow!”

“And let’s not forget, without me, you’d be nothing.”

That arrogance of his ran deep, like he believed the world owed him everything. To him, I wasn’t a living, breathing person. I wasn’t allowed to have my own thoughts or will.

I was just a possession, labeled/’Brian’s Luna.”

Just as he was about to drag me off by force, a hand-a firm, unyielding hand-suddenly intervened between us.

Herbert. 19

He didn’t even touch Brian. Simply standing there, his presence alone created a barrier that felt impossible to cross.

In that moment, for the first time, I felt a profound sense of safety.

After all, I didn’t have a wolf spirit.

If Brian had truly decided to force me away, no matter how much I resisted inside, I wouldn’t have been able to stop him.”

Let her go.” Herbert’s voice was calm, yet it carried an undeniable authority.

“Back off! This is between me and my Luna!” Brian roared at Herbert. “Bloodmoon Pack’s Alpha, are you meddling a bit too much?”

Herbert’s lips curved into a faintly mocking smirk. “Alpha Brian, I don’t think my hearing is faulty. Just now, I distinctly heard Ashley say that you two are in the process of getting divorced. According to the laws of the wolf alliance, during the divorce cooling-off period, both parties hold equal standing. You have absolutely no right to force her into doing anything she doesn’t want to do.”

Brian’s face turned ashen. Herbert had thrown the letter of the law right into his face, leaving him speechless. He could yell at me, use force against me, but he wouldn’t dare make a move against the Bloodmoon Pack’s Alpha-that would only mean war between two packs.

Grinding his teeth, Brian spat out his words like they were dragged from the depths of his throat. “Fine! That’s what the law says. But,” he shifted his tone, and his dark, piercing gaze landed back on me, “if she volunteers to come with me, then you’d have no right to interfere, would you?”

After speaking, he suddenly leaned close to my ear, his scorching breath brushing against my skin, making goosebumps rise all over me. In a low voice that only the two of us could hear, he ordered, “Ashley, just come with me. Stop being stubborn.

“I’ve already told you about the divorce-it’s just temporary. Do you really want the whole pack to mocks, mock Blackwood Pack? For the family, for the pack’s dignity, you should know what’s right.

“And you should also realize, once you leave me, you’ve got nowhere to go. Herbert’s just playing hero for now. With his status, neither he nor his pack would ever accept an oinega like you. You know that, right?”

Here we go again. The same demeaning tone, like some kind of charity case, like he’s handing out scraps. Using the pack’s reputation as a leash, trying to guilt me into submission. Does he still think I’m the fool who’d grovel for one of his fake promises?

As for whether Herbert and his pack would take me in-that thought has never even crossed my mind. 1

Slowly, I turned my head, meeting his smug, close-up face-handsome, maybe, but disgustingly so. And then, I said clearly, ” No.”
