“A few days from now is the annual charity gala of the Wolf Alliance,” he stated in a tone that left no room for argument. “You’ll

attend with me as the Luna of the Blackwood Pack.”

I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.

“It’s for the good of the pack’s reputation,” he continued, as if reading off a script. “The media will shut up, and the Alpha family’s image will be restored.” His eyes bored into mine, like this was some kind of grand privilege he was bestowing. “I’m doing this for the pack.”

“I’m not going,” I cut him off without hesitation, stopping his self-righteous speech in its tracks. “Brian, did you forget? We’re in the middle of a divorce. The moment we signed those papers, we severed all ties. I have every right to say no.”

“This is on you, Ashley,” he said, his eyes devoid of guilt, coldly unmoved, just focused on getting his way. “You’re always scheming, always planting traps. I had no choice but to push back with my own means.”

He stepped closer, that suffocating Alpha aura pressing down on me like a heavy, unyielding weight.

“So,” he said, his tone eerily calm, “what’s it going to be, my dearest Luna?”

My nails dug deep into my palms, the sharp pain keeping me barely grounded as the despair reeled inside me. I stared at his smug, triumphant expression, too much bitterness and helplessness rising up in my chest like bile.
