Chapter 39
“You!” Silvia’s face turned best-red in an instant, and she glared at Vicki with a mix of rage and humiliation. “You’re such an uncouth wolf! Do you even know what true elegance looks like? Let me show you right now.”
Fueled by sheer blind confidence, Silvia grabbed the dress straight from the sales associate’s hands and stormed into the fitting room, clearly on a mission to prove something.
A few minutes later, when the curtain of the fitting room was finally yanked open, a strange hush fell over the entire store. Then, out of nowhere, someone let out a muffled laugh-a sound somewhere between a hiccup and a clucking hen.
Vicki’s comparison was absolutely spot on. That dress, which demanded a near-perfect figure, did nothing flattering for Silvia’s completely shapeless body. Instead of enhancing her features, it managed to put every flaw on full display. The tight fabric dug into her waist, highlighting rolls that made her look, honestly, like an overstuffed, shiny caterpillar.
“Pfft-“Vicki burst out laughing, tears streaming down her face.
All the stares and muffled giggles surrounded Silvia like burning needles, stabbing straight into her pride. Her face went bright red, then pale, then red again, a thoroughly ugly mix of emotions.
“T-this is no big deal!” she stammered, trying to stay composed while grappling with the “torture device” she was wearing. It’s just a dress. I’ll simply pick another one. After all, I need it for an important occasion.”
“Oh? Important occasion?” Vicki wiped a tear from the corner of her eye, dragging out her words deliberately. “You’re not talking about the Alliance charity gala, are you? You actually think Brian’s taking you?”
Silvia froze mid-motion, but quickly threw on her usual arrogant facade like armor.

Vicki laughed even harder. “What a coincidence, Brian’s plus-one is Ashley. The invitation’s already sitting pretty in her purse. And you, Silvia? Don’t tell me you haven’t even seen the shadow of a ticket yet.”
“Impossible!” Silvia screamed, her pitch so shrill it was like a car that just got its tail stepped on. “No way! Brian promised me himself—I’m his rightful Luna! There’s no reason he’d take anyone else!”
I stepped forward slowly, looking down at her, my tone as calm as if I were stating a simple fact: “Maybe you should ask Brian yourself about that.”
Her smug expression instantly collapsed, like a clown at the end of a poorly performed act.
She spun around abruptly, clearly desperate to retreat into the tiny fitting room where she could hide from the humiliation. Whether it was the rush of emotions or just the fact that her heels were impossible to control, her steps faltered, and she
stumbled forward.
“Ah-”
୮
In a frantic attempt to steady herself, she grabbed onto the clothing rack beside her. But that cursed, too-tight dress betrayed
her.
There was a sharp, ripping sound-one of those unmistakable, fabric-tearing sounds.
That ridiculously expensive, one-of-a-kind dress split wide open, from the armpit all the way down to the waist.
The scene could not have been more awkward.
Everyone knows how fragile high-end luxury items often are-like how Chanel’s custom dresses are pretty much one-time
wear.
“Ma’am,” the sales associate’s smile was long gone, replaced with a cold, businesslike professionalism, “according to our policy, you’ll need to pay in full for any damaged items.”
“Fine, I’ll buy it!” Silvia tried to sound composed, but the slight tremble in her voice betrayed the panic she couldn’t hide. “It’s
