Chapter 40

Silvia’s POV

This has got to be the most humiliating moment of my life.

So embarrassing.

The phone barely rang once before it was picked up, Brian’s deep, impatient voice coming through. “What is it?”

“Brian…” I let my voice break, slipping into the tone I’d practiced countless times-the one that always triggered his protective instincts. “I… I’m in trouble…”

“Get to the point, Silvia. I’m busy.”

I took a deep breath, speaking in the most pitiful, helpless voice I could muster. “I… I’m on Rodeo Drive… I found this dress I liked, but… but Ashley and her friend showed up here too… They tried to provoke me, laughed at me… I lost my balance and the dress got ruined… Now the store’s demanding compensation… A hundred grand…”

“What? A hundred grand?!” His muffled growl on the other end carried a barely controlled rage, and even through the receiver, it was enough to make my stomach twist. “Silvia, have you lost your mind?! I told you just a few days ago that the pack’s finances are stretched thin! And now you’ve gone and created this mess?!”

“It wasn’t me! It wasn’t my fault!” I screamed hysterically, tears streaming down like a broken dam. “It was Ashley! All her fault! Brian, you have no idea how cruel she was just now! She and that Beta ganged up on me, mocking me, saying I looked like a caterpillar wrapped in foil! I was just trying to-trying to do something good for you, for the face of the Blackwood Pack at the party… I just wanted to look proper, to help you save some dignity… I never expected this to happen… Brian, they just can’t stand me, they’re always out to ruin me, just like they did at the gallery!”

I dumped all the blame on Ashley without hesitation. I knew tears and deflecting responsibility were always the quickest way to

soften him up.

The other end of the line was dead silent for what felt like an eternity. I could only hear his heavy breathing, low and tense, as if struggling to hold in his anger. Every second dragged on, stretching painfully long.

Just when despair began to creep in, his voice finally broke through, cold as ever: “Stay there. Don’t move. I’m nearby; I’ll be

there soon.”

And then the call ended.

A wave of triumph surged through me, washing away all the earlier humiliation and fear like it had never existed.

He was coming! He still cared! No matter what mistake I madę, no matter how much trouble I caused for him, in the end, he’d always take my side!

I jerked my head up, my face still streaked with tears, but the corners of my lips curled into a victorious grin. Turning on my heel, I strutted over to Ashley, my head high like a proud rooster fresh from a fight.”

Did you hear that?” I waved my phone in front of her on purpose, my tone dripping with smugness. “My Alpha, my husband, he’s on his way to handle everything for me. And you? That random guy you dug up, where is he now?”

I locked my eyes on her face, hoping-no, itching-to catch even the tiniest flicker of jealousy, anger, or maybe just a hint of disappointment in those stunning eyes of hers.

But there was nothing.

Her face stayed so neutral it could’ve been carved from stone, and those gray-blue eyes didn’t even twitch. They were calm, flat –like some glassy, still lake, completely untouched. She just stood there, staring at me with this detached air, like I was no more than a speck of dust floating by, unworthy of any real attention.

The silent disregard hit harder than any insult or shouted retort ever could. Just like that, the little glow of victory I’d been

savoring got stomped out, crushed under the weight of her indifferetice. In its place, a searing mix of frustration, jealousy, and humiliation bubbled up, threatening to overwhelm me.

Why?! Why did she get to look at me like that? Like I didn’t matter? I was the one who won! Brian chose me. I’m the one who stood by his side as Blackwood Pack’s Luna. And her? She’s just some cast-off nobody, a reject without even a wolf spirit.
