Chapter 43

That’s not enough.

What I want isn’t a little spat. I want a storm

a tidal wave of outrage that’ll leave Ashley’s reputation in shreds.

I want the entire North American wolf alliance to see this Ashley, sneaking around with another Alpha like she couldn’t wait a second longer. I’ll make sure those elders, who still think she’s the perfect Luna, get a good look at what kind of lying, disgraceful fraud they’ve been admiring all this time.

Jealous rage boiled in my veins, and the perfect plan, cold and cutting, took shape in my mind.

I dialed a number-the number belonging to the editor-in-chief of the gossip rag, “Voice of the Wolves.” “I’ve got an exclusive story that’ll crash your servers,” my voice quivered slightly with excitement. “Blackwood Pack’s Luna and Bloodmoon Pack’s Alpha. Headline? ‘Blackwood’s Tragedy: The Abandoned Luna and Her Afternoon Romance.’ What do you think?”

A sharp gasp came from the other end of the line.

Less than thirty minutes later, the internet exploded.

The photo, paired with that utterly provocative and humiliating headline, spread across every social media platform like wildfire. The comment sections were filled with relentless curses aimed at Ashley and harsh mockery directed at the Blackwood Pack.

I stared at the vicious remarks, letting the tidal wave of online hate wash over me. A sick, twisted sense of satisfaction surged,

starting from the soles of my feet, pushing all the way to the top of my head.

Satisfied, I switched off my phone. I took a moment to prepare myself, letting tears well up slightly to give the perfect look of innocence and grievance. Then, I dialed Brian’s number.

“Brian…” I breathed, my voice trembling just enough, tinged with disbelief. “Have you… have you seen the news? About Ashley… Oh my God, I can’t even believe it…”

The silence on the other end was deafening. Then I heard it-the beastly sound of his repressed anger, heavy and coarse

breathing. He’d seen it.”

Brian… I really didn’t expect this… How could Ashley do something like this?” I played my part perfectly, a mix of shock, heartbreak, and pity for him. “How could she completely disregard the reputation of the Blackwood Pack… ignore your feelings… Brian, I still remember you told me-if it weren’t for you back then, her greedy uncle would’ve sold her off to those filthy rogue wolves. She would’ve been nothing but their plaything… You gave her everything she has today! How could she… how could she be so ungrateful!”

Every word was designed to hit where it hurt, calculated to stoke Brian’s anger.

“That shameless, ungrateful woman!” He finally snapped, his voice practically scorching through the phone with its fury.

“Brian, please stay calm…” I kept up my facade of “kindness,” my voice soft but steady. “The real problem now is… the elders in the pack must’ve seen that news too… And… and what about the upcoming charity banquet for the alliance? If she still goes as your partner, our Blackwood Pack will become the biggest joke in North America!”

“Over my dead body!” he roared, his voice like thunder. “I won’t let her go! She’ll pay for this embarrassment!”

Now! This was my moment.

“Brian,.” I took a deep breath and spoke with a tone as resolute as if I were walking to my death. “Let me go instead.”

There was silence on the other end of the call.

“I know… I know I’m just a sick woman, a warrior who doesn’t have much time left… I know after the art gallery incident, people have been tearing me apart with their judgment… If I show up at your side, it’ll just invite more criticism and attacks on you…” My voice cracked as tears streamed down my face-tears that were brimming with “selflessness” and “sacrifice.”

“But Brian, I can’t just stand by and watch you face those vultures alone. For the pack, for you, I’m willing to go through anything. I’m ready to stand by your side, even if it’s just this once.”

The silence on the other end dragged on so long that I almost thought he was going to say no.

Then, I heard his voice, rough and shaky, tinged with emotion.

“Alright.”

Just one word.

But it felt like the Moon Goddess herself had blessed me.

I won.

The moment I hung up, I immediately wiped away any trace of sadness.
