Chapter 53
Ashley’s POV
When I opened my eyes again, realized I was lying on the familiar large bed in the master bedroom. The air no longer carried Brian’s aggressive scent; instead, it was replaced by a calm, crisp fragrance, like a winter pine forest right after snowfall.
It was Hebert.
Sitting on the chair by the bed, he held a book in his hand. The soft lighting in the room cast a warm shadow over his sharp, chiseled profile. As soon as he noticed I was stirring, he closed the book and looked at me with those deep, unreadable eyes that
held a hint of concern.
“You’re awake.”
“Brian…” I tried to prop myself up, but the sharp pain in my stomach and the ache in my chest made it almost unbearable to breathe. “Does he… does he know?”
“Don’t worry,” Hebert stood, gently but firmly pressing my shoulder to keep me from getting up. His voice was steady and reassuring, cutting through the storm of fear in my mind. “He doesn’t know anything. When I got there, he was about to call the pack doctor. I made him leave.”
Relieved, I exhaled deeply and collapsed back into the pillows, my body sinking into the mattress.
“Vicki already checked on you,” he continued, his tone calm but firm. “You just got too worked up. You and the baby are fine.”
My hand instinctively rested on my lower abdomen. Inside, there was a small life, an innocent little being that was mine. And his father had just shattered my heart into pieces with the cruelest words.
“He’s glad… He never loved me…” I murmured, Brian’s words echoing in my mind like a curse, over and over again. Tears streamed uncontrollably down my face, like a flood breaking through, carrying all the resentment and pain I had bottled up over the past three years.
How could he change his mind so easily? Silvia had done so much damage to the pack, yet he always found excuses for her, always forgave her. But me? All I wanted was to hold on to the last bit of dignity as his mate, and for that, I became the “cold, selfish woman” in his eyes.
I wiped my tears away forcefully. Maybe it’s just the pregnancy hormones, I told myself. I couldn’t afford to shed another tear
for that man.
I lifted my head and looked at Hebert. My eyes, swollen and red from crying, held a determination I wasn’t sure I’d ever felt before.
୮
“I agree,” I heard my own voice say, hoarse but unmistakably firm. “Hebert, let’s go.”
I followed Hebert’s car as it drove into the territory of the Bloodmoon Pack. When the grand, gothic castle-like Alpha Manor came into view, my heart couldn’t help but skip a beat. Everything here was the complete opposite of the stifling, modernist style of the Blackwood Pack’s main house. It felt ancient, untamed, like every stone was alive and breathing.
Hebert stepped out and opened the car door for me, a gesture so gentlemanly that I froze for a moment. It had been far too long since anyone had treated me like this.
“I’ve already had your belongings brought over,” Hebert’s calm voice snapped me out of my daze. “Your room is ready too.”
He led me through a massive hall spacious enough to host a grand ball, then up a winding staircase lined with dark red carpet. My heels made no sound against it, leaving only the echo of my heartbeat in the silence.
We stopped in front of double doors carved with intricate roses. Hebert didn’t open them right away. Instead, he turned to face me, his deep eyes locking onto mine with an emotion I couldn’t fully decipher-something gentle, yet solemn.
“Welcome home, princess,” he said softly.

Home?
The word buzzed in my head, alinost overwhelming. Before I could even process the weight of it, he pushed the doors open.
The sight inside left me completely breathless.
The soft lavender walls, the canopy bed draped with white lace curtains, the small vanity by the window-even the intricate iris patterns on the carpet… everything here looked exactly like the room my father had once arranged for me when he was still
