Chapter 57
Hebert’s POV
Half-naked?
I glanced down at myself. Alright, fine, the bathrobe’s collar was a bit too loose. But seriously, this silk is so slippery–I swear it wasn’t like this when I left my room. My wolf let out a low growl inside me, not because of the rejection, but because we looked like some desperate, low-class peacock trying way too hard to impress
This was all Marcus’s fault.
Right then, my phone rang. It was Marcus calling.
I took a deep breath before answering, my voice as cold as I could manage. “Marcus.”
“Hey, Alpha!” His overly cheerful voice came through, completely unfazed by my tone. “So, how’d it go? My plan was genius, right? She couldn’t resist your perfect physique, could she? I’m telling you, the next step is—”
“She slammed the door in my face,” I cut him off, my voice calm and completely devoid of emotion. “Oh, and she thinks I’m a, quote, ‘almost naked,’ extremely rude creep.”
The other end of the line went dead silent. After a few seconds, Marcus’s hesitant voice came back. “Oh… uh… details, Hebert. The devil’s in the details. What exactly did you do?”
“Just like you said,” I growled through gritted teeth, “take off my shirt, show my muscles, and ‘casually’ appear in front of her.”
Silence. Then, I heard Marcus gasp, his voice filled with a mix of disbelief and sheer horror: “Oh my god, Hebert, you… you didn’t actually stand at her door naked, did you?”
The silence that followed was answer enough.
“Dear lord!” he practically shouted. “When I said ‘casually,’ I meant in a gym! Or by a pool! Somewhere normal, somewhere that makes sense! Not… not like some kind of wannabe stripper showing up at her doorstep! That’s way too much! You’d scare anyone off doing that!”
“You have to take it slow!” he kept rambling with his so-called advice. “Start small, like… wearing a fitted shirt, maybe unbuttoning the top two buttons while you’re working in front of her. Or, I don’t know, bending over to pick something up so she notices your back muscles! That’s subtle. That’s inviting. Not… a full-on visual ambush!”
He actually made sense. And that only pissed me off more.
“Why didn’t you say that earlier?” I ground out through clenched teeth.
Marcus paused for a second, and then a barely restrained snicker came through the phone. That snicker quickly turned into full- blown laughter, loud and unfiltered, like water breaking through a dam. He was laughing uncontrollably, and there was no mistaking the sheer, outright mockery in it.
“Hahaha… oh my god… I can’t believe you actually… you actually did that! I can picture it! The mighty, fearsome Bloodmoon Alpha, reduced to-what was it–some desperate gigolo? Locked outside like that! Hahaha… this is hands down the funniest thing I’ve heard all year!”
See? That’s Marcus for you. Expert at pinpointing my weak spots and stomping on them with absolute glee.
“Marcus,” I said evenly, cutting through his obnoxious laughter.
“What? Haha… c’mon, just let me laugh a little longer-”
“I just remembered,” I interrupted, my voice calm but edged, “the crystal mines on the northern border of the pack… they seem to be short on a supervisor lately.”

His laughter stopped so abruptly, it was like someone had hit pause. The silence was almost comical in itself.
“Wait, what? Hebert, buddy, you can’t be serious! That place is freezing! There’s no cell service!”
“Perfect,” I replied, dragging out each word deliberately. “That should give you plenty of time to reflect on where those ‘ textbook-level’ tips of yours went wrong. You leave first thing tomorrow.”
“Don’t do this, my Alpha! I was wrong! I was so, so wrong! You’re the smartest, most brilliant-“I ended the call without bothering to hear the rest of his nonsense. Finally, some peace.
I just hope my impulsive actions didn’t leave a terrible impression on Ashley.
Ashley’s POV
I have to admit, Hebert’s physique is undeniably appealing. My body betrayed me, making it clear that I was drawn to him. Honestly, it feels like a pretty normal reaction-I’m a grown Omega wolf, after all, with perfectly natural needs. But let’s be real, I wouldn’t actually act on these feelings.
