Chapter 83
Ashley’s POV
After returning to my room, I couldn’t calm down no matter how hard I tried. It wasn’t until late into the night that I finally drifted off to sleep.
The next morning, sunlight slipped through the gap in the heavy curtains, stabbing into my eyes. I dragged myself out of bed, my head pounding like crazy. Just as I was groaning and rubbing my temples, my phone buzzed on the nightstand. The screen lit up with the name of the orphanage director.
“Good morning, Luna,” the director greeted, her excitement practically spilling out through the phone. “Sorry to disturb you so early. We’re planning a big birthday party for all the kids. I’ve already emailed you the detailed event plan along with the budget. I hope you can approve it.”
“No problem.” I forced myself to sound energetic, masking my fatigue. “That’s yonderful news for the kids. I’ll get on it right away.” I hung up the phone and walked over to my desk, flipping open my laptop. There it was-an emar! marked with a bold red “urgent” tag sitting quietly in my inbox. As the acting Luna of the Bloodmoon Pack, I had the authority to handle most of the pack’s daily affairs. I skimmed through the event proposal quickly; everything looked perfect. But when my eyes landed on the final page showing the total budget, my fingers froze on the mouse.
It was no small amount. According to the pack’s rules, any expense over a certain limit had to be signed off by the Alpha personally.
An hour later, I stood outside the Alpha’s office. Lifting a hand, my knuckles rapped on the door three times.
“Come in.”
My hand instantly froze mid-air. That wasn’t Hebert’s voice-it was Cecilia’s.
I bit down hard on the inside of my cheek and gave the door a firm push.
The spacious office was brightly lit. Cecilia stood next to the massive mahogany desk, dressed in a deep wine-red silk blouse. She didn’t even look surprised to see me walk in. Instead, the corner of her mouth curled into a smirk that practically screamed
arrogance.
“Oh, Ashley, there you are,” she said, casually turning her head to bark an order at one of the servants standing in the corner. ” Bring our acting Luna a black coffee. She looks like she could use a little boost.” She turned her gaze back to me and said, “Why don’t you have a seat on the couch for a bit? Hebert is in the middle of a really important video conference, and we still have a lot of core matters to discuss. I’m sorry, but you’ll need to wait.”
“We.” “Core matters.”

Those words struck a nerve. The way Cecilia conducted everything here-so smooth, so confident. She stood there like she owned this office, this manor, maybe even the entire Bloodmoon Pack. Meanwhile, I felt more like a guest. Or just… a subordinate.
I shifted my focus past her, landing on Hebert, seated in his oversized leather chair.
