Chapter 85
I watched Hebert’s expression carefully, and when I saw the way fre looked at her a look of utter fascination–it felt like someone had plunged a knife straight into my chest. Three years. I’ve spent three whole years by his side, handling everything for the pack, staying up countless nights to help him through tough times. Yet he has never once looked at me that way. Not
even once.
And Ashley? This pregnant woman waltzes in here, staying just two weeks, and she easily takes everything I yearned for. She’s a disgrace. Not just to me, but to Hebert’s reputation as well.
“But there’s one thing that’s got me concerned.” I let my voice trail off on purpose, lowering it like I was deep in thought before continuing, “Oh, it just reminded me of something. Yesterday, a few pack members came to me. They mentioned… Ashley’s mark… and had some concerns about it. They’re worried it might affect the pack’s image, especially with how other wolf packs might talk about it. Of course, I reassured them that none of that matters, that what really counts is Ashley’s character. But still… “I didn’t finish my sentence but left my words hanging, wearing an expression that suggested I had more to say but chose not to. This subtle hint was far more effective than any outright accusation. I intended to plant a tiny seed of doubt in Hebert’s mind, making him question if choosing Ashley had truly been the right decision.
Brian’s mark—it was a scar Ashley could never erase. No matter how hard she worked or how impeccable she appeared, that mark was a constant reminder to everyone that she had once belonged to another Alpha. In the traditional values of the pack, this was disgraceful, especially for someone meant to hold the sacred title of Luna.
“Tell those wolves they just need to understand the Alpha’s choices, not comment on them.” His tone was cold and distant, like he couldn’t be bothered to waste more than a single breath on me. His gaze, as always, carried nothing but indifference when it
landed on me.
“Now get back to work. You’ll handle those rumors.” Hebert’s dispassionate words lingered as his attention turned back to his
computer.
“Understood, Alpha.” I bit down hard on the words, forcing them out as I fought to keep my composure. Taking the files off the desk, I spun around and strode out of his office.
The air in the hallway was just as chilly. I stopped, my chest heaving as rage and frustration bubbled inside me.
Hebert! I’ll make him see. Make him see just how incompetent that woman truly is. I’ll show the entire Bloodmoon Pack that she’s not even close to being worthy of the Luna’s crown!
I pulled my phone out of my handbag, my fingers flying across the screen as I dialed a number buried at the very bottom of my
contacts.
The call went through after just two rings.
୮
“It’s me,” I said in a low voice. “The orphanage is about to host a big birthday party. Our amazing stand–in Luna has taken it upon herself to organize the whole thing.”
