Abandoned While Pregnant, Claimed by the Alpha novel Chapter 87

I’d bet anything the pack wouldn’t take long to start hurling stones at me, figuratively speaking. But I couldn’t argue backI was sure someone had deliberately set me up for this.

I don’t intend to argue.I cut off her performance coldly, my tone sharp. But, Cecília, I need to remind youif you’re suggesting that pregnant women are incapable of handling any responsibilities, perhaps I should let all the pack’s female wolves vote on whether your statement holds up.

Cecilia’s face instantly turned pale. That’s not what I meant, just-

Hebert interjected immediately, his voice calm but firm. Enough. Now’s not the time for fighting. Ashley, tell me. What’s your plan?

I met Hebert’s piercing gaze, straightening my spine. There was no flinching, no tears.

This is, without a doubt, my fault,I said slowly, clearly emphasizing every word. I was the one in charge of this event. The children got poisoned right under my nose. I won’t shy away from any of the blame or punishment the pack decides to give me.

I took a deep breath, forcing the trembling in my voice to disappear completely. But now is not the time to assign blame. The priority is solving the problem. We need to head to the hospital immediately and make sure every child is safe.

The room fell into an oppressive silence.

Hebert stared at me. For a moment, the anger burning in his eyes seemed to freeze in place. The rigid line of his jaw softened slightly. He didn’t explode like some irrational tyrant. Instead, his restraint, the kind you’d expect from a top Alpha, came through in full force.

Ashley is right,Hebert fitrally said. His voice was steady, cold, but carried an air of absolute authority. Saving lives comes first. Everyone, get to the hospital. Now.

The hospital corridors reeked of disinfectant. The harsh fluorescent lights cast pale reflections on the cold floor, making the whole place feel lifeless.

I sat stiffly on a plastic bench outside the emergency room. My hands were clasped tightly together, veins bulging across iny skin. The vomit stains from the children were still on my clothes, but cleaning up was the last thing on my mind. Internally, I was almost shouting prayers to the Moon Goddess, begging for the kids to pull through.

A few steps away, Hebert stood motionless like a statue. His tall frame radiated tension, though he kept his focus locked on the closed doors of the emergency room, never glancing my way.

Three long hours had dragged by, each second feeling like torture. Out of nowhere, Hebert’s large hand covered mine, and I stared at him, startled.

Just as he was about to speak, the red light above the emergency room flicked off. An older doctor in a white coat pushed the door open and stepped out, pulling down his mask with a deep exhale.

I shot to my feet, my legs wobbling from sitting stiffly for too long.

Alpha, Luna Ashley, the doctor greeted with a slight bow, his voice heavy with relief and exhaustion. The timing was perfect. The toxins have been completely cleared, and the children are out of danger. With a few days of monitoring, they’ll make a full recovery.

It was like music to my ears. The tension that had gripped me so tightly snapped all at once, and tears spilled down without warning. I pressed my hand to my mouth, biting down hard to stifle any sobs.

Thank you,I murmured quietly, my heart finally settling back into my chest after being stuck in my throat for what felt like an eternity. The suffocating weight that had been crushing me eased, just a little.

Hebert gave a small nod, his tone firm as he addressed the doctor: Use the pack’s best resources to ensure there are no lasting effects.
