I pulled my phone out of my pocket. The moment the screen lit up, a barrage of venomous words hit me like silver daggers dipped in wolfsbane, stabbing straight into my eyes. The Bloodmoon Pack’s internal forum had exploded with rage.

“That outsider doesn’t deserve to be our Luna! She’s a useless wreck who can’t even protect a bunch of pups!”

“This is exactly why Alpha Brian wanted her out of the pack–because of her incompetence!”

“This has to be a setup! She’s definitely a spy sent by Briar to poison the future of our pack and destroy our foundation!”

Some even aimed directly at Hebert.

“Has our Alpha been bewitched? How could he trust a woman carrying a Blackwood Pack brat to care for our kids? This is the biggest disgrace in Bloodmoon Pack history!” Those words made my stomach churn all over again. My trembling fingers swiped across the screen, each hateful comment stabbing into my already shattered heart like a blade. What terrified me more was how the number of insults and curses kept soaring. Every few seconds, a new wave of venomous words would flood in.

I felt utterly hopeless. No matter how much I tried to explain, no matter what I said, I couldn’t change the truth–those innocent kids got poisoned at an event I organized. I didn’t mean for it to happen, but it did, and I couldn’t defend myself. What hurt even more was the doubt creeping into my own mind. Did I really mess something up? “Alpha,” Cecilia turned slightly, her posture perfectly composed as she addressed Hebert, “The current situation is extremely unfavorable–not just for you but for the entire Bloodmoon Pack. The people need someone to blame.”

Her voice sounded calm, so composed, like she genuinely was thinking for the good of the pack. But I caught that fleeting glimmer in her eyes–barely noticeable yet impossible to miss. That woman, she was enjoying every moment. She was reveling in watching me crash from my pedestal straight into the dirt.

Hebert stood at the far end of the hallway, his expression as dark as a brewing storm. Even across such a distance, I could feel the chilling pressure radiating from him. He didn’t glance my way, not even a single look. That complete disregard stung more than any words he could have said.

Cecilia carried on her act. She turned to me, her gaze dripping with exaggerated sympathy, though her lips curled in the slightest trace of satisfaction. “Ashley, I totally understand how you’re feeling. But for the sake of calming everyone down and protecting Alpha’s reputation, I propose Hebert issue a statement and temporarily suspend your position.”

Suspend my position? My heart plunged. It wasn’t about clinging to the title of Luna for Bloodmoon Pack i never cared for that. But stepping down, abandoning that role, would be like admitting to the entire wolf pack society that I poisoned those innocent kids deliberately. It wouldn’t just destroy my reputation; it would completely ruin the future of the child I carried.

This was nothing short of a political assassination! There’s no way I can back down.

I took a deep breath, forcing myself to calm down. Anger and despair wouldn’t fix anything–they’d just make me lose focus. I needed to think this through logically. I replayed every detail from this morning in my mind. I had personally overseen the ingredient purchases; every single item was carefully inspected. I had been involved in every step of the cake–making process, from mixing the batter to checking the baking temperature.
