Chapter 89
My plan was airtight, absolutely flawless. So where did it all go wrong?
There was only one explanation someone had tampered with it. That person was lurking in the shadows of the Bloodmoon Pack, waiting for the perfect moment to strike a fatal blow. And today’s birthday party was the battlefield they had carefully chosen.
The thought sparked a fire of rage deep within me, burning so fiercely it felt like molten lava. I refuse to let this scheming puppet master win. I will uncover the truth. I’ll fight for justice for those kids who suffered, and I’ll prove my innocence–no matter what it takes!
“I refuse.” My voice echoed through the cold hallway, firm and unwavering. “I need the truth, not some rushed decision just to silence the public. Alpha, I’m asking you to give me some time. I’ll personally uncover what’s really going on here.”
Cecilia immediately raised her voice, dripping with fake concern and exaggerated sorrow. “Oh, Ashley! I totally understand how you’re feeling right now. Losing power isn’t easy, I get it. But look at the situation—we’re in chaos! If you’re so attached to the Luna title, you could always take it back after the investigation clears. Why make things harder for Alpha at this critical moment?
I rolled my eyes internally. For Moon Goddess‘ sake, this scheming wolf–so quick and manipulative with her words, and now she’s painted me as some power–hungry, self–centered troublemaker. She’d love nothing more than to see me completely
crushed and kicked to the curb.
My chest rose and fell as anger burned inside me, but I couldn’t let her get to me. I locked my gaze on Hebert’s stern face and said without backing down, “Three days. I just need three days. If I can’t find the real culprit behind the poisoned cake within that time, if I can’t prove my innocence to the Bloodmoon Pack, I’ll step down as acting Luna myself and accept the Pack Council’s harshest punishment.”
Cecilia opened her mouth again, ready to spit out more venom. “Ashley, this is ridiculous! Do you really think you can figure it out in three days—”
His cold stare swept across Cecilia, and the raw, dominating aura of a top Alpha exploded in the air. The proud she–wolf stumbled back instantly, her words swallowed in fear. Her face turned as pale as a sheet, and her body trembled uncontrollably. In the face of absolute power, all her schemes and theatrics seemed utterly laughable.
It was like the temperature in the hallway plummeted. The air grew so heavy it felt like it could crush you. This was the Alpha of the Bloodmoon Pack, the king who clawed his way out of hell itself. When he was truly angry, the very world seemed to shake under his fury.
Hebert’s gaze shifted to me, and those deep, unreadable eyes locked onto mine, His voice was calm yet carried an undeniable authority. “Three days, Ashley. I’ll give you three days. During that time, you’re free to use any resource within the Bloodmoon Pack, including my personal guards, to assist in your investigation.” My heart skipped a beat, a rush of indescribable emotions surging to my throat. At a time when everyone was pointing fingers at me, doubting me, practically wishing me out of their sight, he chose to give me the greatest trust and authority. That trust felt impossibly heavy, almost too much to bear.
