Chapter 91
The wind howled past, rushing into my ears, and the air in the car felt suffocatingly thin. I pushed the car to its absolute limit, each sharp turn accompanied by the ear–piercing screech of the tires. My body jolted violently with every twist, the seatbelt digging painfully into my shoulders, leaving a constant, dull ache.
Finally, the end of that abandoned road came into view.
But the sight before me made my blood run cold.
Standing there, smack in the middle of the road, was another thug wolf with a brutal, scarred face. He hadn’t run. He stood the bold as brass, like some grotesque statue planted on the asphalt. His bloodshot eyes locked onto my speeding car, and a cruel, mocking grin stretched across his lips.
He wasn’t hiding. He’d been waiting for me.
The thug wolf back at the mountainside–it was all a setup.
“Damn it!” I gritted my teeth, forcing the curse out between them. A cold, crushing fear gripped my chest like an icy hand, squeezing tighter by the second. Instinct took over–jerking the steering wheel and slamming the brakes, I tried desperately t turn the car around and make a run for it.
But it was too late.
The rogue wolf let out a guttural, inhuman roar and launched himself forward with terrifying power. His legs coiled like spring and he shot toward my car like a cannonball, moving at a speed that defied reason.
Bang!
The deafening crash shattered the night. The front of my car caved in under the brute force of the impact. The airbags burst out instantly, slamming into my face with brutal force. A sharp metallic tang flooded my mouth as pain lanced through my nose. Dizzying waves crashed against my skull, and the relentless ringing in my ears swirled like a swarm of enraged bees.
“Been waiting for you, beautiful Luna.”
The rough voice sliced into my consciousness–way too close. Its grating tone sent a violent shiver up my spine. Slowly, fearfully, I forced my eyes open.
There he was–his grotesque face pressed right up against the driver’s side window. One massive fist, veined and bristling with dark hair, rose, ready to strike.
“No-!” My scream tore out of my throat, raw panic ripping through me.
Smash!
What should’ve been an unbreakable window shattered like brittle ice under the brute’s inhuman strength. Shards rained down on me like a brutal storm, slicing into my skin with vicious precision. Tiny lacerations seared across my arms and face, warm blood welling up and trailing down my forehead, streaking my vision with red.
Every cut burned like fire, trapping me deeper in a nightmare that felt endless.
His muscular arm shot into the car and clamped around my neck, dragging me out of the seat with brute force.
The suffocating lack of air overwhelmed me in an instant. I struggled desperately, clawing at his arm with all my strength, but against this towering brute of a rogue wolf, it was pointless.
