Abandoned While Pregnant, Claimed by the Alpha novel Chapter 95

Chapter 95

I buried my face into the war curve of his neck, the scent of cedar wrapping around me.

My hands clung tightly to his shirt, made of finely woven fabric, my nails almost piercing through it.

Don’t be scared.

Hebert’s voice came from above me. It was low, gravelly, and steeped in barelyheld restraint.

I’m here. I’ll take you home, Ashley.

That one line hit me like a surge of electricity, stripping away every layer of composure I had painstakingly built.

When that disgusting thug insulted me with vile words, I didn’t shed a tear.

Even when he tore my dress apart and shoved me to the rough, gritty dirt, I refused to cry.

I forced myself to raise every thorn the world had left me, fighting back with venomous words, searching desperately for any chance of escape.

But now, hearing his gentle reassurance, every bit of that armor crumbled to dust.

I couldn’t hold it together anymore.

I sobbed uncontrollably in his arms, my thin shoulders shaking with the intensity I couldn’t suppress.

Hebert made no move to stop me. He knelt down on one knee in the damp, filthy ground, which reeked of urine and mildew, completely ignoring the mess staining his expensive handcrafted shoes and tailored suit pants.

His strong arms wrapped firmly around my waist, pulling me entirely into his embrace.

One of his hands rested on my back, sliding slow and steady along my spine.

His lips pressed against the top of my head, kissing my dusty, sweatsoaked hair over and over again.

It felt deeply reverent, like I was something precious to him.

Gradually, my emotions started to come under control.

Air filled my lungs once more, though it brought with it a slight sting.

I raised my head, pulling away from the warmth of his chest just a few inches.

The cold air hit my exposed skin, making me shiver instinctively.

Without thinking, I grabbed onto his arm, my fingers pressing firmly into the solid muscle of his biceps.

Hebert, listen to me!

My words poured out in a rush, mixed with uneven breaths. My voice echoed sharply through the empty cellar.

I’ve got critical info. That lowlife wolf, he’s the one who handed over the strong laxatives and hallucinogens to the bakery owner.

I locked my gaze on his face, desperate to spill every piece of evidence.

Someone paid him off, big money. This whole thingit’s a vicious trap.

I really didn’t do anything to hurt those kids. There’s no way I would poison the desserts at the orphanage.

I justI just haven’t figured out who’s behind that thug, the one pulling the strings.

My heart was pounding so hard in my chest that I could feel it smashing against my ribs, loud and deafening.

The panic was creeping back in, swallowing me whole.

What if he didn’t believe me?

Because honestly, it all sounded way too much like a lame excuse frorn someone who had already screwed up.

I’d messed everything up. Not only had I failed to uncover the real culprit in the promised three days, but I’d also ended up in this humiliating, downright dangerous situation. To top it all off, I’d lost the elite guards he assigned to me.

I was desperate to prove I wasn’t guilty, to show him that I wasn’t just some walking disaster.

I couldn’t bear the thought of seeing disappointmentor worse, doubton his face.

Because that would hurt more than any blow from that thug ever could.

Hebert just stood there, listening while I rambled on like a mess.
