Abandoned While Pregnant, Claimed by the Alpha novel Chapter 99

Chapter gy

Ashley’s POV

Scalding water poured over my skin, but it couldn’t wash away the bonedeep chill clinging to me. I slipped into a clean silk robe and sat alone in the empty living room. The old brass clock ticked nonotonously, its cold hards mercilessly crossing past 2 a.m. Sleep was out of the question. Every time I closed my eyes, the repulsive stench of that rogue wolf burst through my senses like an unwelcome memory. The only thing that could chase away this suffocating darkness was the strength of Hebert’s arms.

But he wasn’t back yet.

The heavy oak door creaked low and deep as it was pushed open from the outside. A suffocating, overpowering scent of blood instantly flooded the air in the living room. This wasn’t the smell of a simple scrape or cutit was tire lingering stench of spilled, overwhelming death. Hebert strode inside, his movements deliberate and commanding. His expensive suit jacket had been discarded, leaving his white shirt with its sleeves roughly shoved up to his elbows and his collar slightly undone. The dimn lighting cast shadows that traced the sharp lines of his tall frame, amplifying the oppressive, violent presence he exuded as an Alpha. He wasn’t the Hebert who usually greeted me with warm smiles. No, tonight, he was something far darkera beast freshly satiated with blood, a tyrant surveying his domain atop a pile of fallen enemies.

My chest tightened painfully, and a surge of respect mixed with instinctive fear clawed at my throat. Even so, I managed to summon a shred of courage and called out, Hebert.

He turned to glance in my direction, and the unsettling gold glint in his eyesa glare that sent shivers down my spinemelted away the second his gaze landed on me. The angles of his jaw softened visibly, and the cedarwood scent of his pheromones, which had been hostile and overwhelming just moments before, immediately shifted into something calm and gentle.

Pushing myself upright from the velvet sofa, I caught sight of the faint reddish marks on the back of his handdried blood. He followed my gaze, and with a sharp, almost frantic motion, hid his stained hand behind him. The hurriedness of the gesture didn’t mask the slight embarrassment it betrayed.

Why aren’t you resting, Ashley? His voice was hoarse, layered with exhaustion.

I was waiting for you.The words slipped out before I even thought about them, carrying a dependence that shocked even me. I took a deep breath, trying to calm the flutter in my chest. Today… I really have to thank you. If you hadn’t shown up like some kind of godsend, I don’t even want to imagine what could’ve happened to me.

He managed a barelythere smile, taking a step closer with those long strides of his. Gratitude shouldn’t be just words tossed around lightly, my Luna. There was a teasing edge to his tone.

I looked up, locking eyes with him. Those deep eyes of his held so many secrets, layers I couldn’t begin to understandenticing

yet incredibly dangerous. I was completely captivated by them.

Your eyesthey’re beautiful,I murmured, as if I’d been bewitched. A powerful and charming Alpha like you must have people chasing after you all the time. Over the years, have you ever found someonesomeone who could make you give up almost everything? Orsomeone you’d willingly offer your soul to?

The room fell into stillness. The ticking of the brass clock seemed deafening in the silence.

Hebert stared straight at me. The warmth in his gaze vanished in an instant, replaced by the raw, predatory force that only an Alpha like him could emitit was suffocating, pressing down on me like a weight around my throat. My heart raced; it felt like it might burst through my ribs any second.

Ashley, are you sure you want to ask me that? His voice was dangerously low, each word carrying a weight that sent chills through me. I froze for a moment, my throat dry, unable to make a sound.

He stepped closer, his towering figure casting me completely in his shadow. What exactly is our relationship here, huh? In my world, there are thingsvery private thingsthat I’d only share with the closest person in my life. So tell me, who are you to dig into my thoughts?
