CHAPTER HUNDRED-TWENTYEIGHT-3

“No,” I said, letting out a sigh. “Nothing. And with every passing minute, the chances of finding him alive…” I trailed off, the thought too painful to finish.

She put a hand on my shoulder, a sad smile on her lips. If I was feeling this way, I couldn’t imagine how Dominic was feeling right now. He knew Adrian’s family more than I did, I just knew them through him. This whole thing was killing him, and he was putting a strong front, but I knew that he

was losing hope.

“This whole situation is so messed up. I can’t even imagine what’s going through Dominic’s head right now.”

“It’s bad, Val. I haven’t seen him this stressed out in a long time. Not since…”

“Since your mom died.” She said, her voice soft.

Dominic had always loved and adored our mother. She was his rock, the one person he could always count on. When she died, a piece of him died with her. He had to step up and take on the role of Alpha, and he was forced to grow up way too fast.

“Yeah. This is bringing back a lot of painful memories for him.”

She let out a sigh, resting her head on my shoulder. “I’m sure we’ll find him, Gio. We have to.”

“I hope so. For all our sakes.”

I could tell she was trying to stay optimistic, but the reality of the situation was grim. With every passing minute, the chances of finding Adrian alive were slimming. The only thing we could hope

for now was answers.

Valerie kissed my forehead and gave me a reassuring smile. I placed her on my lap, burying my

head in the crook of her neck.

“I’m sure it will be okay,” she whispered, rubbing my back,

“I hope you’re right,” I replied, holding her close.

We stayed like that for a while, wrapped in each other’s arms, trying to find comfort in the uncertainty. Valerie’s scent washed over me, and her warmth enveloped me, chasing away the

coldness that had settled in my heart.

My hands rubbed her belly, thinking about the little life growing inside her, a piece of me, a piece of

Valerie. This was the start of a new life, a new beginning. I wanted to savor every moment of it, to

cherish every milestone, and watch my little pup grow.

“We have a doctor’s appointment today, right?” I asked her, and she nodded.

“Yeah, at 2 pm. Dr. Adams wants to check up on the baby and make sure everything is going

smoothly.”

I nodded, the thought of meeting my pup for the first time exciting and a little scary. Will I be a good dad? What if something goes wrong?

“Don’t worry,” Valerie said, her hand on my cheek. “Everything will be okay.”

I nodded, giving her a smile. “I know. It’s just… I’m excited and nervous at the same time.”

She smiled, her eyes soft. “That’s normal, Gio. And hey, it’s a good distraction from the Adrian

situation.”

I couldn’t help but agree. “Yeah. It is.”

I leaned in and kissed her, the taste of her lips a sweet, familiar comfort. She sighed into the kiss, her arms wrapping around my neck.

We broke apart, and she rested her head on my chest, her breathing slow and even.

All I wanted was just to forget, to lose myself in her, in the moment. But I couldn’t. My mind kept going back to Adrian, and the fear that we might never find him.

Because if we didn’t, Dominic would have no choice but to declare him dead, and the
