CHAPTER HUNDRED-SEVENTY
HAILEY
The day was perfect. Bright, sunny, and warm, a picture postcard image. There was a gentle breeze blowing, the sound of the waves crashing against the shore, the salty tang of the ocean in
the air.
I leaned against the railing, my gaze scanning the beach, a sea of faces and bodies spread out before me. Liam was down there, running and playing with his new friends he made here, his laughter a sweet, joyful sound.
I had never been happier.
Dominic wrapped his arms around me, his chest pressed against my back, his chin resting on the top of my head.
“Are you enjoying the view?” he asked, his voice a low, sultry purr.
“Very much,” I replied, a smile curving my lips.
It had been three weeks since we got married, and we were still in a honeymoon phase, our desire
for each other stronger than ever.
“Me too,” he said, his hands trailing along the curves of my body.
He was insatiable, and I loved it.
Dominic flew myself and our son to an exotic island for a few weeks, and it was just what we needed. The stress and worry from before had melted away, and it was just us and the ocean and
the sky.
We had a nice little cottage by the beach, and Dominic made sure to spoil us rotten. He was a
great father, and it was fun seeing him interact with his son. They had a lot of bonding time, and
Liam seemed to adore him even more.
Liam made quite a bunch of friends here and he seemed to be having so much fun than he did
back at home. He loved the beach, and he loved the freedom of running around without a care in
the world.
This is what I wanted for him, for us. A simple, happy life, free from the darkness and the danger
that had plagued us for so long.
“Have you heard from Giovanni?” I asked, my curiosity getting the better of me.
Dominic’s hold on me tightened slightly, a subtle, almost imperceptible shift. “I spoke with him
yesterday,” he said, his tone casual, but I could hear the undercurrent of something else, something
he wasn’t telling me.

“Is everything okay?”

“Everything’s fine,” he assured me, but I could tell he was holding something back. “I brought you
here to not think about the pack, baby. We are going to stay here and act like I’m not an Alpha,
you’re not the Luna and we are just a normal family without a single care in the world.” He kissed
my temple and went back inside the cottage, leaving me alone with my thoughts.
I knew he was trying to protect me, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that something was wrong. The
memory of the stripper’s warning still haunted me, a nagging doubt that lingered in the back of my
mind.
He was right though. I needed to let it go. We were married, we were happy, and that was all that mattered. I shouldn’t let my mind run rampant with what ifs and maybes.
He hadn’t given me leads on the cause of Yasmine’s death, the police has been on her case for a
while now, but they’ve not found any leads. The case has gone cold, and Dominic seemed to be
okay with that. He seemed to be relieved that the threat was gone, and he was ready to move on.
I was too, for the most part. But a part of me couldn’t help but wonder if there was more to the story. If Yasmine’s death was not as random as it seemed. But I pushed the thought away, refusing to let it ruin our perfect day.
“Liam, honey,” I called out, my voice carried by the breeze. “Time for lunch.”
He ran towards me, his little legs pumping, a sand covered, sun kissed vision of pure,
unadulterated joy. “Mommy, can we have ice cream after lunch?”
“Maybe,” I said, a smile playing on my lips. “If you eat all your vegetables.”
He scrunched up his nose, a look of mock disgust on his face. “Okay,” he said, a dramatic sigh escaping his lips. “But only because I love you.”
I laughed, a carefree, happy sound that was filled with pure, unadulterated bliss. This was my life. This was my happiness. And I was going to cherish every single moment of it.
We had lunch, a simple meal of sandwiches and fruit, eaten on the patio, the sun a warm, gentle caress on our skin. Dominic was in a good mood, his laughter a deep, rumbling sound that filled the air. I loved seeing him like this… without the responsibility of a pack weighing on his shoulder, without the danger and the darkness. He looked younger, carefree.
He told me about a new business venture he was thinking of, something to diversify the pack’s investments. He was a changed man, a better man and I was proud of him. If only this could be our forever life, where we didn’t have to worry about anything or anyone, where we could just be a normal family.
“What do you think, baby?” he asked, his eyes sparking with enthusiasm. “Is it a good idea?”

He grinned, a proud, confident smirk that made my heart flutter. “I know,” he said, a playful glint in
his eye.
Liam had already finished eating and was running back to the beach to join his friends, his laughter echoing in the distance.
