CHAPTER TWENTY–FIVE

HAILEY

“This is so nice!” Valerie exclaimed as she looked around.

It’s been a couple of hours since we’ve settled into our new home.

“Yeah, it’s not that bad.” I said, looking around.

The house was a duplex, and had three bedrooms and three bathrooms. It was fully furnished and had a

small backyard and a patio. It felt weird living in a pack again after so many years, I was so used to living with humans that I almost forgot that I was a werewolf, myself.

I haven’t turned in a while, and I didn’t miss it.

The power, the strength, the speed, the agility, and the senses that came with being a werewolf, was the

best.

But, sometimes, it was a curse.

Sometimes, it was too much, and it was overwhelming.

Being able to see, hear, and sense everything. Sometimes, the heightened senses were a blessing, and

other times, it was a curse.

I haven’t turned in months.

But, I guess, there was no escaping the shift.

It was inevitable.

“Hailey, what do you think? Do you like the house?”

“I love the house, Val. It’s really great. Thank you for being here with me. It means a lot. You don’t know how much your presence means to me.”

“Of course, I’ll always be here for you, no matter what. You’re like my sister. I’ve known you since forever. We’ve been through everything together. You’re my family, and no matter what, I’ll always be by your side. Besides, we’re best friends. Who’s gonna cook and clean up after us? The circumstances behind us being here, might have been a rough decision to make, but we’re here already, and now, it’s time to face reality.”

“I guess you’re right.”

“Besides, I know you’re scared. You’re scared of facing him. But, Hailey, you have nothing to worry about. You’ve been running from your past, for the past five years, and lived your best life. So, I’m sure he doesn’t know every single member of his pack, so there’s no way he’ll get to see you. You’re going to be fine. It’s not like he’ll find out you’re here, and if he does, it’s not like you guys have to be close. You can avoid him and live your best life. You’ll go to work, take care of the patients, come home, and relax. It’s a simple routine. And we’ll make sure Liam never runs into him or finds out he’s his father. We’ll make sure the truth

is kept secret. This will be fine. You’ll be fine. Okay?”

I nodded, my eyes filling with tears. “Okay.”

“That’s the spirit. Now, let’s explore our new kitchen and fix up some dinner. It’s a little late, and I’m sure Liam’s starving.”

“I’m hungry,” Liam pouted, and my heart warmed.

“Help me run Liam a warm bath while I cook up something for dinner, please?”

“Sure. Come on, honey. Let’s go take a bath.”

They went upstairs and as soon as I entered the kitchen, I realized that I needed to go grocery shopping because the kitchen was totally empty.

I sighed.

So much for a warm dinner.

There was nothing in the house.

The fridge was empty, and the cabinets were bare. My car would be shipped in tomorrow, and it would have been the easiest way to get to the grocery store. But seeing as I couldn’t wait until tomorrow, and

that I had no choice, I had to take the bus.

I sent a quick text to Valerie, informing her that I’ll be heading to the grocery store, and headed out.

I walked down the street, and headed for the bus stop.

This place definitely had a lot of changes.

It wasn’t the same anymore.

But, one thing was still the same.

The streets were deserted, and the silence was eerie.

The streets were empty, except for a few cars, and it was so quiet, the only sound I heard was my heart beating. This pack has always been the most feared pack, which means, tourists or even people from other packs didn’t dare enter the town’s boundaries, and everyone always had the fear of meeting the

Alpha.

Dominic ruled with a hand of steel. He was cruel, cold, ruthless, and unforgiving.

There was no mercy when it came to him.

You had two options when it came to the Alpha.

One, join his pack and be under his protection.

Or, two, fight, and risk death.

There was no middle ground.

S CHAPTER TWENTY FIVE

He didn’t have allies or enemies. Whoever tries to fight him, or defies him, dies.

No questions asked.

He had a strong and powerful army, and even his guards were strong and scary.

The only person he trusted was his younger brother, but even at that, he trusts no one.

And that was the man I fell madly and hopelessly in love with. How that happened, I’ll never know.

I was a fool.

A young, stupid, foolish, naive girl.

Because, thinking about it, Dominic has the blood of so many people on his hands. He’s a murderer. He’s

killed so many.

The innocent, the guilty, the children, and even the elderly.

But, what else was he supposed to do?

His father was a monster.

His mother was not a saint.

He had a terrible childhood, and the only way he could survive and thrive, was through cruelty. That’s all he knows, and that’s what he’ll ever be.

I was a fool for thinking he could ever change.

He’ll never change.

But, what can I say?

When you’re in love, you’ll forgive the person of anything.

And I did.

I forgave him, time and time again, because I loved him.

I shook the horrid thoughts out of my head and quickly walked into the grocery store. Thankfully, so far, no one has recognized me as their ex Luna. The incredible weight loss I’ve had over the years after being on the bigger size due to polycystic ovary syndrome, was the main reason no one recognized me.

Not to mention the fact that the last time they saw me, was when I was twenty three and now, I was

twenty eight.

It was a great relief, but also might not work on everyone.

The last thing I wanted was to be recognized by a former guard, or even worse, someone who actually

knew me.

But, thankfully, no one had noticed me yet, and I was grateful for the lack of recognition.

CHAPTER TWENTY FIVE

I was here for a purpose.
