Dominic didn’t come back last night. Something had gone wrong. Very wrong. He had gone out to meet Tricia’s mom and we haven’t heard from him and Carlos.

My heart was beating fast, my palms sweating.

We couldn’t contact them, they were not picking up their phones, and it was worrying me.

We didn’t know what happened, but whatever it was, it was not good.

Giovanni had immediately sent some of his men to go and find them, but they haven’t found anything yet.

This was not looking good.

“Hailey, please calm down.” Valerie tried to reason.

“Hailey, I know you’re worried, but you have to keep your composure. If something has happened, losing your cool won’t help. Not in your current condition.”

I knew she was right. Dominic, wherever he is wouldn’t want me stressing, he would want me to take care of myself, especially since we are expecting. But I couldn’t help it. “Hailey, if something has happened, I’m sure Dominic will fight.” Giovanni tried to assure me.

My phone suddenly rang. It was an unknown number. “Hello?”

“If it isn’t the one and only Hailey. Soon to be a nobody and a widow if you don’t do as I say.” The all too familiar voice of Tricia said, and my blood ran cold.

“Tricia?” I couldn’t even hide the shock in my voice. I had my suspicions yes, but never in a million years would I have thought she would have the guts.

“The one and only. You see how easy it was for me to fool you? All of you? Not even one person could have thought. From the death of that stupid boy on New Year’s Eve, to regularly poisoning you and unfortunately you didn’t lose that bastard fetus, to finally getting rid of my useless mother. And now? Now, I have Dominic all to myself. I finally have my fated.”

She laughed. It was the most cruel, terrifying laugh I have ever heard.

“What have you done to him, Tricia?” I tried to keep my voice steady, but I could feel the fear creeping in. “Oh, don’t worry. He’s alive. For now. I wouldn’t hurt him, after all, he’s my mate. The love of my life. The only one who has ever been there for me. The one who has ever cared.”

“You’re delusional. He is not your mate. He belongs to me.”
