CHAPTER EIGHTY-TWO-2

“Shocked. And a little scared.”

“Scared?”

“Yes. Scared. This was not part of the plan, and it was never supposed to happen. It was just supposed to be casual and fun, and we both agreed that there were no strings attached and no

feelings.

Valerie was pale and white.

I didn’t have to ask, the answer was written all over her face.

She was pregnant.

“H-hailey… I’m p-pregnant. Oh my God. It’s positive. Hailey, the test was positive.”

I hugged her, and tried my best not to cry. “Okay, see what we’re going to do. Just calm down and wipe your tears, okay? We’ll a take proper urine test to confirm this. You know these tests can be wrong sometimes, so let’s not panic. Everything will be fine. It’s not a bad thing, okay?”

She sniffled and wiped her tears. “How is it not a bad thing? I’m not even in a relationship. The whole idea was to have fun, and not catch feelings, but the reality is, I’ve caught feelings, and now I’m carrying his child. How did things go from zero to one hundred so fast?”

“I’m here, and everything will be fine. Don’t stress, and keep your anxiety levels low. I know this is hard, but you’re not alone, and I will be here every step of the way. So, breathe, and relax.”

“How the hell am I supposed to relax and take a breath when I’m carrying his child? I haven’t even figured out my own life, and I’m having a baby. With him! The whole situation is a mess. Hailey, how the hell did things get so complicated, how could I have been so stupid and careless. What the hell was I thinking, and why didn’t I stop him when we didn’t use protection. What’s the matter with

me?”

“Nothing is wrong with you, Val. And it’s not your fault, and this is not the end of the world. So, stop

freaking out and let’s just think rationally and calmly. Take a breath, and let’s try to figure this out.

We will handle this, and you will get through this. You have to believe that.”

“Believe what, Hailey? The fact that I’m pregnant, and he doesn’t want a relationship, or the

complications and drama. So, how do I handle this?”

“Before we make any irrational decisions let’s get a proper pregnancy test done at the clinic. They have the best results, and are more accurate than the over the counter tests. So, we’ll go to the

clinic and get you checked out.”

CHAPTER FIGHTY TWO-2

She sighed, and nodded.

“Hailey, what if it’s true and I really am pregnant? Giovanni would hate me. He would think I’m trying to trap him with the pregnancy and ruin his life.”

“If he really feels that way, then it’s not meant to be, and you would have done yourself a favor. Because, if a person doesn’t value you or care, then it’s not worth the struggle, and you’re better off

alone than with someone who is not right for you.”

“And if he does want the baby, and me, what will that mean for me?”

“No matter what Giovanni decides, the point is, you have a choice, and you will always have a say. You can do whatever you want, and you don’t have to let him call the shots. You have the power, and the say, so if he doesn’t agree with your choices, then that’s his problem. C’mon, let’s get ready to go to the hospital. We’ll drop Liam off at school on our way.”

I took her hand, and we walked to her room.

It was going to be a long day.

VALERIE

Pregnant.

I was pregnant, and it felt like a nightmare.

Éverything was happening too fast, and there was no way out of this. How did I go from worrying about confessing my feelings to Giovanni, to the possibility that I was carrying his child?

Hailey wanted us to be sure, but I knew deep in my guts that the pregnancy test result would still

be the same.

I was pregnant.

And there was no getting around it.

We were on our way to the hospital after dropping Liam off at school, and the anticipation was

killing me.

“Hailey, can we stop at the café and grab a smoothie?”

“Val, they won’t give you coffee or tea, and the smoothies have caffeine.”

“I will take the one without caffeine.”

“Val.”

“Please. I’m craving for one.”

CHAPTER FIGHTY TWO 2

She sighed and took the next turn.

“Fine. Just one, and then we go to the hospital. Deal?”

“Deal.”

She parked, and we went inside the café.

I got my coffee freezy and she ordered hers.

We stood outside and sipped our drinks. In truth, I was only trying to stall time. Trying to avoid the

inevitable.

I knew that the moment the doctor told us the result, everything would change, and nothing would

ever be the same.

I could see the pity in Hailey’s eyes, and she felt sorry for me. I didn’t blame her. It was the worst

position to be in. And it made me wonder how she coped finding out she was pregnant and her
