Chapter 656 One Last Chance
With those final words, Lucas-walked out
Leaving John behind, shaken and tormented.
How much did he actually know?
It wasn’t until Tatiana got another call from Tammy that she finally relaxed. And once she heard from Tammy about the kidnapping, she felt murderous rage toward the Lund family.
They’d dared to lay a hand on someone under her protection.
She dialed Lucas.
The phone buzzed, “Tatiana” lighting up the screen.
Lucas answered with trembling fingers, unconsciously straightening his back-like some deep-seated instinct to brace himself.
“Lucas.” Tatiana’s voice was ice-cold-no greeting, no small talk, just brutal sarcasm, “If you can’t even keep your own people safe, then you’d better let her go now. Tammy shouldn’t have to pay for your mess.”
Every word hit him like a needle dipped in frost, piercing the most vulnerable, shameful part of him.
His grip on the phone tightened until his knuckles went white.
His lips parted, wanting to defend himself, but he realized any excuse would just sound pathetic.
He dropped his head slightly, his voice rough with a barely-there, almost begging plea, “Tatiana… just give me one more shot.”
He paused, gathering every ounce of strength he had left, “I swear… I’ll take care of it myself. I’ll fix it. I will never-never-let Tammy get hurt because of the Lund family again.”
The line went quiet for a moment-a silence that felt like it was swallowing him whole!
He held his breath, waiting for the verdict.
He knew exactly how much influence Tatiana held over Tammy, and what she was capable of
Against her, he could only beg-never insist.
Finally, a faint, unreadable hum came through the speaker-whether it was approval or deeper mockery,
he couldn’t tell.
“Remember your words,”
And with that, she hung up without another second.
The dial tone buzzed in his ear. Lucas let his arm fall slowly, as if all the strength had drained out of him.
He stared out at the heave night beyond the window. Something settled deep in his eyes–a tangled mess of shame, self-blame, and the desperate resolve to go all in.
But Tatiana didn’t leave it all to him. She sent another team out as a backup plan.
Too bad she couldn’t go herself right now.
The thought only made her more restless.
After a day of silence, Liam was back to his usual self-spending all his time by her side.
