Chapter 114
“I noticed he died in his wolf form before shifting back,” I remarked, carefully observing the unmistakable signs surrounding the lifeless body.
Dominic knelt down beside the corpse, his eyes narrowing as he examined the fatal injury. “Silver blade to the heart, Alpha. A clean, precise strike. Whoever did this clearly knew how to kill a werewolf,” he said with a grim tone.
I crouched lower to get a better look, my jaw tightening as I took in the meticulous nature of the wound. The silver had seared the flesh around the entry point, leaving it blackened and preventing any chance of healing. This was no random attack—it was the work of someone intimately familiar with our vulnerabilities.
Dominic pointed toward the ground, where paw prints were scattered across the soft earth. “There are signs of at least two wolves fighting here. Dr. Green wasn’t alone,” he added, his voice steady but cautious.
I furrowed my brow, struggling to piece together the puzzle. “Why would another wolf use silver? That’s not our way,” I muttered, more to myself than anyone else.
Reaching carefully around the neck of the body, Dominic pulled out an object and held it up. “Alpha, take a look at this.”
He handed me a necklace with a triangular pendant—the unmistakable symbol of the Triads. Our suspicions had been confirmed: Dr. Green was indeed tied to the organization.
My expression darkened as one of my team members approached, holding another discovery. “Alpha, we found this in his pocket—an empty syringe.”
I clenched my fists, my voice hardening. “That’s probably what he used to kill the woman inside. He killed her, and then someone killed him. The question is: why?”
I began pacing the clearing, trying to connect the dots. “This doesn’t add up, Dominic. If Dr. Green was part of the Triads, why was he eliminated? This doesn’t look like some internal cleanup.”
Dominic hesitated briefly before sharing another detail. “There were signs of an infant in the cabin—blankets, bottles—but no baby was there.”
I stopped pacing, the weight of the implication settling heavily on me. “Maybe someone rescued the baby and confronted Dr. Green in the process.”
“But who would care enough to protect a baby connected to the Triads?” I wondered aloud, the question lingering in the cool night air.
