We walked in silence, the tension between us thick enough to cut with a knife. Once inside the small conference room, Rocco closed the door and turned to face me, waiting.

I didn’t waste time with preamble. “My father just told me everything about Lyra.”

Rocco’s expression remained carefully guarded. “What about her?”

“He knew her years ago. Before she was… your sister.” The words felt strange on my tongue. “He mentored her, sponsored her education. But then he discovered what she was really doing.”

I watched Rocco’s face carefully as I recounted everything my father had told me–Lyra’s experiments, her obsession with transformation, the confrontation that led to her apparent death, and her miraculous reappearance days later.

“She’s learned some kind of ancient ritual,” I continued, my voice steady despite the chill running down my spine. “Soul transference. She can move her consciousness from body to body when she dies.”
