Chapter 252
Kira’s POV
I checked my equipment for the third time as our convoy of black SUVS cut through the darkness. My hands trembled slightly–from exhaustion or adrenaline, I couldn’t tell anymore.
*You should eat something, Rocco said from the seat beside me, his voice low enough that Marcus, our driver, couldn’t hear from the
front.
I shook my head, eyes fixed on the tablet displaying the facility schematics. “Can’t. Stomach’s in knots.”
The road grew rougher as we ventured deeper into the forest. Headlights from the other two vehicles flickered behind us through the trees. Twenty of our best people, divided into three teams, all risking their lives tonight. The responsibility sat heavy on my shoulders.
“Rebecca, any update on satellite imaging?” I asked through the comm device in my ear.
“Four main entrances, all heavily guarded,” her voice crackled back. “Western guard rotation shows a three–minute gap every half hour. And Kira… energy readings from the central chamber are off the charts. Whatever Ethan’s building in there, it’s almost operational.”
I exchanged a glance with Rocco, whose jaw tightened. Time wasn’t on our side.
“Approaching drop point,” Marcus announced, slowing the vehicle.
We stopped in a small clearing about a kilometer from the facility. As we exited the vehicles, team members gathered around me, checking weapons and adjusting equipment.
Andy approached, his face half–hidden in shadow. “What’s the plan?”
I pulled up the facility map on my tablet. “We split as planned. Andy, you lead Alpha team through that western entrance. Your primary goal is creating a diversion and securing their data servers.”
He nodded, checking his tranquilizer gun. “And you?”
“Rocco and I take the team through these ventilation shafts,” I pointed to the northwest corner of the schematics. “They lead directly to the central lab area. If Ethan’s conducting his ritual there, that’s where we need to be.”
‘Gamma team maintains perimeter security and extraction routes,” I continued. “Remember, many guards may be under mind control. Non–lethal takedowns only–these could be innocent werewolves.”
As team members dispersed for final preparations, Andy pulled me aside. “Those ventilation shafts look narrow. You sure that’s the best way in?”
It’s the least monitored access point,” I replied. “We need stealth more than comfort.”
Andy sighed, then squeezed my uninjured shoulder. “Just… be careful in there. Something feels off about this whole setup.”
