Chapter 66

Kira’s Perspective:

The director’s expression remained unconvinced as she replied, “If you want to arrange a funeral, you’ll need to coordinate with the mortuary. Fiona’s personal belongings were sparse—just a few clothes and some books.”

I tried to sound casual, hoping to glean more information. “Did she have any friends here? Anyone she was particularly close to?”

Shaking her head, the director responded, “Fiona was very private. Her roommate was transferred not long after the incident.”

Noah jumped in, his curiosity evident. “Were there any other visitors? Anyone else who came to see her?”

For a brief moment, a flicker of recognition crossed the director’s face. “There was a young man who visited once. He claimed to be a relative, but he didn’t resemble her at all. After his visit, Fiona became quite agitated—we had to sedate her.”

My heart rate quickened. “Do you remember his name?”

After a moment of thought, the director answered, “Jim Harpert, I believe. He only came that one time.”

I pressed on, “What about Dr. Green? I recall his name from my last visit. Is he still available? I’d like to discuss Fiona’s condition with him.”

Her face tightened. “Dr. Green resigned shortly after Ms. Scott’s death. It seemed to affect him deeply—he’d been treating her for years.”

That was another lead—another thread to pull. I exchanged a meaningful glance with Noah, who gave me a subtle nod of encouragement.

“Could we see Fiona’s room?” I asked softly. “I’d like to say goodbye, in a way.”

The director hesitated briefly before nodding. “I suppose there’s no harm. The room has been empty since the incident.”

Inside, the room was stark and bare, completely devoid of personality. A lone bed rested against one wall, with a small desk opposite it. Heavy metal bars covered the window—a security measure, I assumed, to prevent any more “accidents” like Fiona’s.

“She jumped from the roof,” the director explained, following my gaze. “Security was tight, but we never figured out how she got up there.”
