“I’m not signing the papers,” I say, my voice quiet. “There are no papers, I signed an agreement not to interfere or derail your healing.”
She pauses, her eyes searching mine for even the slightest bit of doubt, but there’s none. I did infact sign the binding documents because I didn’t trust myself not to bring her back that very day. I’ve wanted to. I still do. “That’s not funny, take me home.”
“I can’t,” I shake my head. “Not until you’re better.”
“I am,” she snaps.
“You’re starving yourself.”
“I want to eat at home,” she frowns. “At my own time, please do something, King.” She begs, taking my hand in hers. “I want to go home with you.”
“You will, soon.” I force a smile. “Three months will fly by, and you’ll be doing so good that you’ll give me therapy sessions.”
“No,” her voice breaks, her hand trembling.
“I’m sorry, but I can’t get you out of here without you getting the help you need.” I tell her, “James is updating me on your progress, and he thinks you can make it in a month. Isn’t that great?”
Her response is instant, sharp. “No,” she shakes her head. “I don’t want to be here. Why don’t you understand? I feel like killing myself here, I’m safer at home.”
“Alpha Kingston,” Nurse Evelyn calls, stealing my attention for a moment. I look up to find her and Seraphine standing behind Aeliana. “The person you called us here.”
Called? No, I didn't call her. She shouldn’t be here. She is the reason Aeliana lost it, and Gamma Hartley thought it was a good idea to bring her?
I try to wave her away without catching Aeliana’s attention, but Seraphine doesn’t catch the hint fast enough. Aeliana turns, her gaze mirroring mine. “Seraphine?” She quietly gasps, her hands shaking. “You-you brought her?” She asks, her voice broken and her stare betrayed.
“No,” I blurt out. “Look at me,” I turn her away from Seraphine, but the stupid girl doesn’t move, she doesn’t leave. “I asked for food since you're not eating. I thought maybe you missed Lexie’s cooking or Chef Tanya’s.”
“It is not about food, Kingston. I want to go home.” She snaps, pulling her hand away. “I don’t want to be here, I hate everything here, the room, the people, the routines, the stupid one-on-one sessions, the group sessions, the food, the air, I hate everything.” She grits through her teeth, “Even that damn foundation you thought I would like.”
“Hey, sister,” Seraphine steps forward with a huge smile. Aeliana rolls her eyes and stands, glaring at her, but it doesn't faze her. “You’re in luck, they made your favourite.” She says, showing her the lunch bag. “How are you?” She asks, trying to go for a hug.
“Don’t touch me!” Aeliana snaps, taking a step back.
“Sorry.” Seraphine gulps, her smile fading.
Aeliana snickers, “For which part?”
“Everything?”
“Give me that,” I snatch the lunch bag from her and setting on the table. “Aeliana, why don’t you sit down so we can eat?”
She stares between Seraphine and me, then reluctantly nods. “I hope she poisoned it.” She mutters.
I ignore the remark, but Nurse Evelyn’s eyes go wide. “I’ll wash my hands, and I’ll be back to feed you, okay? Would you like that?”
